Worst to Best

I didn't quite get this film. I never understood what it tried to accomplish. It was never funny or particularly interesting. Few things in it made any sense, and I just couldn't care for it. It's a big puzzle.

Saboteur is a very forgettable film. And if it weren't for the fact that it's a part of Hitchcock's filmography, I doubt anyone would have remembered it. As a Hitchcock film itself it's even more forgettable. There's just nothing in it that strikes out.

Hitchcock manages to implant a few genuine moments of terror in a film with an extremely silly premise, but those moments are few and far between in a film that suffers from sluggish pacing and an unnecessarily stretched plot.

While watching To Catch a Thief I was constantly thinking that there's a really great film in here somewhere. But it's just a fine film. Solid framework. Nice premise. Solid performances by charming people that got great chemistry between each other. There's a lot of fun in just that. But that's all basically this film is. It just feels like empty banter for the most of the time.

I get that Hitchcock obviously wanted the film to be more about its two leads than the actual plot, but this caused for a slightly frustrating viewing experience. At some point you just want Hitchcock to switch his attention a little bit. To mix things up, just to avoid the plot feeling so secondary, dull and predictable.

My favoritte is Rear Window, brilliant movie. I also like Dial M for murder, Psycho, Shadow of a Doubt and Rope very much. Maybe i'll make a list my self, if you don't mind?

Topaz should of been at the bottom, it is his weakest.

The trouble with Harry should be much higher, it's Hitch's only comedy and very black. His best movie isn't even on your list, which in my opinion is "North by Northwest", with Psycho a very close second and probably a tie between Vertigo and Rear Window for third.

I've not seen "North by Northwest". I only include movies I've seen. "The Trouble with Harry" was not funny.

Well Hitchcock is among my favorite directors all-time...seen 20+ of his films and -guess what- "The Trouble with Harry" sits dead last on my list too (with "Suspicion" just above it, so maybe don't rush see that one. Never seen Topaz)

Happy to see "Rope" toward the top of your list...it's definately one that generally gets over-looked. And if I can throw my 2 cents in, give "Notorious" a watch sometime. Definately my favorite.

I suggest you try his English-made films as well. Some interesting stuff there to be found.
