Albums discovered in 2010
Perhaps too long but lots of funky fun here.

The Brazilian "Sgt. Pepper's". Sorta great.
blue_skies's rating:
Tuomari Nurmio style folk rock with twisted, humouristic lyrics. Love those bombastic drums on some tracks.
blue_skies's rating:
Pretty good stuff.
At least the first disc was pretty good.
blue_skies's rating:
"Black Lake Nidstång" is pretty awesome, I can already tell you this.
blue_skies's rating:
Highlights on the first listening: "Subterranean Homesick Alien", "Gates of Eden" and "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream". The latest especially, I love Dylan's funny tracks.
blue_skies's rating:
Got the 2009 re-master (English).
Doesn't quite reach the synthetic beauty and groove of "Trans-Europe Express" but it's still a brilliant robot synth pop record with classics like "The Robots", "The Model" and "Neon Lights" on it. blue_skies's rating:
At first I thought this was boring but it either improved towards the end or I started warming up for it. Especially the last two songs, "Ballad in Plain D" and "It Ain't Me Babe", are some excellently written love songs.
blue_skies's rating:
Nothing really stuck into my mind on the first listen. Except for the title track which I'd already discovered to be fantastic.
blue_skies's rating:
He could spare the harmonica a little but yeah. "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" is fantastic.
blue_skies's rating:
Got the "original mono recordings" box set which I'm going to listen to in chronological order.
This wasn't as bad or mediocre as I expected: simple acoustic folky and bluesy tunes greatly mixed. A fast and energetic EP of 10 minutes, not as pop as their later stuff.
blue_skies's rating:
Some thick atmosphere!
"Ghost Hardware" and "Archangel" are gorgeous. blue_skies's rating:
"Flashing Lights" is fantastic but mostly this is a bore. He really DID improve on this style on his latest album.
blue_skies's rating:
Otherworldly, original, dreamy, fantastic, mindfuck.
blue_skies's rating:
Once again, the first couple of songs are great but then it gets boring.
blue_skies's rating:
Some pretty damn fine songs here, seems great. Gotta give it more spins.
blue_skies's rating:
Somehow hadn't heard this until now. I've always felt that Sigur Rós is too "polished" for my taste and thus a bit boring and that impression stays still. Although I gotta say that "Staralfur" and "Olsen Olsen" are fantastic examples of modern songwriting.
I'm sure it'll grow on me. blue_skies's rating:
My second The National acquisition. Not sure yet how much I like it; it sounds pleasant and all but not as good as High Violet, yet. "Secret Meeting" and "Karen" are cool songs.
blue_skies's rating:
Noise pop / shoegaze stuff from the early '90s.
blue_skies's rating:
Nice music for.. twilight.
Sleepy atmosphere, diggin' it. blue_skies's rating:
Half's kinda boring, half's kinda good.
blue_skies's rating:
Finally got a hold of this. Can't say anything about it yet except that Heaven and Hell fucking rules.
blue_skies's rating:
Something really impressive about a debut album such as this but I'm not totally feeling it. Yet.
blue_skies's rating:
wtf again
Weird album, most of it sounded like random bleeping and blooping but I feel there's something wonderful hidden in this monster. The last track is quite a ride. blue_skies's rating:
meh
EDIT: OK, certainly better on second listening. The A-side is fine but the B-side is kinda boring. blue_skies's rating:
Pretty good for a Finnish hip hop album. The title track is great.
blue_skies's rating:
Wow, this is pretty damn good from the 65-year-Young (heh). The overuse of delayed vocals irritates me a little but the distorted guitars sound crunchy in a great way.
blue_skies's rating:
"Done Got Old" is one hell of a first track. I expected the whole album to be of its awesomely minimalistic, melancholy style so I was a little disappointed. Pretty good stuff though.
Well, couldn't think of a more descriptive title for this. FUNKY FUNKY FUNKEEH
Badass album of badass electric blues songs.
ONE MOH! AAAAAONE MOOH! Some of the most life-affirming pop music I've heard. "San Vicente" is becoming one of my favorite songs of all time.
A 1968 record of Cream-esque psychedelic rock from San Francisco.
blue_skies's rating:
"Player's Ball" is great, can't say anything about the others yet.
blue_skies's rating:
Another record I used as a soundtrack for Hitman: Blood Money.
Perfect atmosphere for the game, don't know how much I can enjoy it on its own. Big L was mad with the rhymes and rhythmically great too.
I flows, so one of my shows, wouldn't be clever to miss I'm leavin competitors pissed To tell you the truth, it gets no better than this Sheeeeeeeiiit... blue_skies's rating:
Fantastic folk album by a promising Swedish singer/songwriter, Kristian Matsson.
"I Won't Be Found" is one of the best examples of great folk songwriting. blue_skies's rating:
Not a big fan of his '70s stuff but this seems a cool album. It has better (and funner) songs than Closing Time and some entertaining tales to the lyrics.
Maybe I should drink more in order to appreciate this bar blues period more. blue_skies's rating:
Her first album. Has some pretty good songs like the opening three: the pretty "Linnuton puu", the radio hit "C'est la vie" and Duffy-esque "Melankolian riemut".
blue_skies's rating:
"Ever Fallen in Love" is one of those songs that one can't help stupidly dancing to. That and "Orgasm Addict" made me buy this record.
blue_skies's rating:
Something charming about this lo-finess.
