1. The Master (2012)

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams

What's it about?: A Naval veteran arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future - until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader.

What do I think?: It will surely be nominated for Best Actor, the battle will go between Joaquin Phoenix and Daniel Day-Lewis. For Best Director as well, PTA is a great director and I'll not be surprised if he wins. Maybe Best Supporting Actor, Screenplay...we'll see.

Nominations: -Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role - Joaquin Phoenix
-Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role - Philip Seymour Hoffman
-Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role - Amy Adams

It looks like Paul Thomas Anderson didn't get a nomination, pitty. No Best Picture nominee, I must say a little surprised but all the other nominations I expected.

Won: 0

2. Django Unchained (2012)

Director: Quentin Tarantino

Cast: Jamie Foxx, Don Johnson, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington

What's it about?: With the help of his mentor, a slave-turned-bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.

What do I think?: The Academy doesn't really nominate Quentin Tarantino's films but I think this one will not be one of those films. I know everybody thinks that Leonardo DiCaprio is gonna be nominated for Best Supporting Actor but I really don't think so. Not because I don't think DiCaprio is great actor, is because the Academy doesn't seem to nominate him every time he makes a good performance and I think that's how is gonna be this year too.

Nominations: Best Achievement in Cinematography - Robert Richardson
Best Achievement in Sound Editing - Wylie Stateman
Best Motion Picture of the Year - Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin, Pilar Savone
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role -Christoph Waltz
Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen -- Quentin Tarantino

No Leonardo DiCaprio as I expected. All I can say is Go Quentin Tarantino!

Won: 2 (Best Actor - Christoph Waltz; Best Writing - Quentin Tarantino)

What's it about?: After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.

What do I think?: I don't know what to say about this movie. Everybody seems to think it's gonna be a big hit at the Oscars that's why I putted it.

Nominations: Best Achievement in Directing - David O. Russell
Best Achievement in Editing - Jay Cassidy, Crispin Struthers
Best Motion Picture of the Year - Donna Gigliotti, Bruce Cohen ,Jonathan Gordon

Well, I'd say The Master has very big shoots to win the major Oscars. But Lincoln and Hitchcock have big shoots too. I'm surprised by Hotel Noir on the list. Great list.

I'm going to hate Promised Land and The Wolf of Wall Street so, SO MUCH. I don't like what Matt Damon stands for, which in my view, is a proverbial punching bag for some characters. The exceptions are Mystic Pizza, Good Will Hunting, Dogma, Titan A.E., the Ocean's Eleven series, Stuck on You, Spirit, Ponyo, The Adjustment Bureau, the remake of True Grit, and We Bought A Zoo, of course. Although, outside of Ponyo, I haven't really watched any of these.

And I wish I could see Hotel Transylvania soon because it looks nice, and I had no idea that Genndy Tartakovsky was involved in it since I know him for his 2-D cartoons before this movie.
