30 days of music
I've made my own version of the 30 day song meme for a few reasons:
1. I don't believe in wasting energy thinking about bands and songs I don't like, nor would I want to find songs by said bands just for a list 2. I don't listen to the radio 3. I never feel guilty about liking a song Day 01 - Your favorite song In my opinion this is the best song ever written, and it was written long before I was born. I found The Doors during my teenhood and they provided the perfect soundtrack for those years. At the time I embraced the words "music is your only friend until the end" as words to live by, and as I grow older and friends come and go it's remained true. Music has been there for me longer than anyone I've known besides my blood relatives, and it'll still be there for me when I'm old and grey. Comforting. the giraffe's rating:
Day 02 - A song from your favorite band/artist NIN has been my favorite artist since 1992. I could also have gone with a(nother) song by The Doors or Tripping Daisy. the giraffe's rating:
Day 03 - A song that makes you happy Among many many others. the giraffe's rating:
Day 04 - A song that makes you sad The majority of Hank's songs make me sad. the giraffe's rating:
Day 05 - A song that reminds you of someone This song reminds me of the only ex-girlfriend I stayed friends with, partly because she introduced me to Zappa's music, partly because she was raised Catholic. the giraffe's rating:
Day 06 - A song that reminds of you of somewhere "Give Me Something Real" Lyrics... Well I've read every book they wrote Baboon was a band from Denton, TX, formed while the members attended courses at the University of North Texas. This song was written about the singer's experience at UNT, which is where I graduated from. Therefore it reminds me of college. the giraffe's rating:
Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event Reminds me of my first kiss, which happened while at a NIN concert in 1995 during their performance of this song. See also: Songs and what they mean to me the giraffe's rating:
Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to Doesn't everyone? To be honest, I know all the words to more songs than I could possibly list. Decided to go with this one though, because if you don't know the words you should. Day 09 - A song that you can dance to the giraffe's rating:
Day 10 - A song that makes you sleepy the giraffe's rating:
Day 11 - A song from a movie you love Also my favorite Cure song of all-time. the giraffe's rating:
Day 12 - A song from your favorite male vocalist the giraffe's rating:
Day 13 - A song from your favorite female vocalist the giraffe's rating:
Day 14 - A song that no one would expect you to love Admittedly the video is the main reason I even paid attention to this song. Chevy Chase rules. A song that describes you Lyrics: What the hell's going on around here? the giraffe's rating:
Day 16 - A song that you used to love but now hate I wouldn't really say I HATE it now, but I definitely got burned out on it and could go forever without hearing it again. the giraffe's rating:
Day 17 - A song from an artist you wish more people liked I fail to comprehend why Self isn't more (or at all) popular. the giraffe's rating:
Day 18 - A song from an album you wish more people had heard Day 19 - A song from your favorite album (Since I've counted it for 2 days, I've given you 2 songs. Enjoy.) the giraffe's rating:
Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry See also: Albums that make me want to break things the giraffe's rating:
Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy One of many songs I listen to when I'm happy. This is one of the happiest ones though. the giraffe's rating:
Day 22 - A song that you listen to when you're sad If I'm in the mood to embrace my sadness, that is. If I want to cheer up I'll listen to something that makes me happy. the giraffe's rating:
Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh "A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When the Stripper Is Crying" The title alone makes me laugh, but parts of this song make me laugh uncontrollably even after listening to it countless times. the giraffe's rating:
Day 26 - A song that you can play on an instrument I don't like this song, but a friend taught me the bassline one day and so I know how to play it. Which isn't saying much because it's ridiculously simple. the giraffe's rating:
A song you wish you'd written I feel like I did and it was plucked from my head. Lots of NIN songs are that way too, but I figured they're on here enough times already. the giraffe's rating:
Day 28 - A song that changed your music taste in some way I first heard this song when a good friend introduced me to this album, shortly before the term "alternative" was coined to define a music genre. Nothing ever sounded the same after I heard it (and every song that followed it on the album). See also: I was a preteen metalhead the giraffe's rating:
Day 29 - A song from your childhood Not only inescapable when I was a child, but also my favorite artist back then. Easily the greatest music video ever made. the giraffe's rating:

You seem to like NIN quite much. I've never really gotten into them, even though I tried.
But hey great job, I like this version of the list! ;)
Hah, I used to play that Bloodhound Gang song now and then at work while cleaning up at the end of the night... especially if it was a tough night and a coworker or two needed cheering up. Funny stuff!
As always it's evident that a lot of thought and good taste went into this. Well done friend!
1. A.W.E.S.O.M.E. I bet we started to listen to The Doors at the same age (14?15 years old?).
2. Not bad but not really my thing but, at the end, I was starting to enjoy it.
3. Not bad same as above
4. Again not my thing but I still thought it was a pretty cool tune.
5. As usual with Zappa, pretty weird stuff. it reminded me of my father who had a couple of LPs. Cool song.
6. No video so no review.
7. Like n.2, I though first 'not for me' but then after 30 seconds, I was rather hypnotized by this devilish bassline so not bad at all after all!
8. I don't mind Queen but I'm no a big fan and by the way, I don't know the lyrics but I will get to it this week-end!
9. Not bad at all. How do you dance on this?!?
10. again, not bad at all maybe a little too long for me.
11. Always a pleasure to listen to The Cure. Not my favorite song though.
12. It's so annoying!!!! You did it again! First, after 10 seconds, I think "No, I won't like this one" but then after a while, it gets on me and I finally I can't dismiss it at all... Interesting tune!
13. I'm not really familiar with Bjork but it was a pretty cool tune.
.... and my shift is finished! I will finish some other time.
"You come from nothing, you're going back to nothing -
what have you lost? - Nothing!" - LOL -
*Off to download Bright Side Of Life from Napster*
14. Indeed, I didn't expect you to like this song. It wasn't bad but I'm more into the dark stuff, I guess...
15. Since I'm working at the same time, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics but the song was pretty cool.
16. It is quite funny because it is, after n.1 of course, my favorite number so far! But it has been years since I heard it and maybe I'd get tired of it if I listened to it too often.
17. Never heard of Self before... Can't say I really enjoyed the song either! Rather average.
18. Not bad.
19. Not bad but n.18 was better though.
20. I really enjoyed this song... until they started to sing! I like hard-rock and heavy-metal stuff but I can't stand it when they scream...
21. Wow! That was weird... Not my thing, sorry.
22. Not bad.
23. Not bad at all. It does fit for a wedding indeed.
24. 'Life of Brian' is easily my favorite Monty Python movie and it is indeed a great choice for a funeral song.
25. Again, since I'm working at the same time, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics but even though, it thought it was really weird, I did laugh a couple of times...
26. It was...ok. Not a big fan of Manson.
27. Not bad at all.
28. Pretty cool song.
29. In the 80's, nobody was bigger than Michael Jackson. He was the best back then, too bad he became such a nutcase... Great song.
30.... and not bad!
To conclude, even though we don't share the same music taste, you love for (good) music is really inspiring and I had a great time listening to those tunes.
And for those who read this, don't listen to the radio!!! Make your own choices, dare discover some unknown stuff, be curious!
Time to go home, dude...
Agreed agreed agreed!!!!!!!!! Thanks for listening!
