30 Days, 30 Shows
Day 1: A show that should have never been canceled
Considering its has only increased in popularity, the money-hungry FOX executives would have done well to ignore to the initial low ratings and focus on the show's potential. Had the exec's emphasized quality of content, it would still be on air, they would have made more money and we would have a show with characters worth caring about. Outside of Whedon creations it's rare to find well-developed characters, episodes of substance and original storylines. ![]() mika_'s rating:
Day 4: Your favorite show ever
Doctor Who, currently in the hands of Stephen Moffat, destroys that antiquated notion that atheists are by definition immoral individuals. The show contains themes of pacifism (of a type) and humanitarianism (if you can call it that, what with dealing with aliens and all). The Doctor, no matter the actor, is always entertaining and the companion, though never as round as a Whedon woman, is compelling enough. And the story arc's, especially of this most recent season (six), are brilliantly-crafted. ![]() Day 5: Your favorite episode of your favorite T.V. show A Good Man Goes to War Written by Moffat, this poem (also Moffat's) recited in the episode indicates why I love this episode/show: "Demons run when a good man goes to war Night will fall and drown the sun When a good man goes to war Friendship dies and true love lies Night will fall and the dark will rise When a good man goes to war Demons run, but count the cost The battle's won, but the child is lost" ![]() Day 6: Least favorite episode of your favorite T.V. show There are no bad Doctor Who episodes! Therefore, I'll say The Girl in the Fireplace by Stephen Moffat only because it is among the most depressing episodes in T.V. history. ![]() mika_'s rating:
Day 7: A show you hate
I confess I've never seen it. I still wish them eternal damnation. No picture necessary. We've seen enough of them. Day 8: A show everyone should watch
What with the numerous pop-culture references, the substance of the stories and the depth of the characters it can appeal to a variety of individuals. Like many people Ted has a desire to have what Marshall and Lily have (true love, something seemingly antiquated nowadays) but is continually influenced/pressured by Barney (like the media) to emphasize appearance and temporary pleasure. Like many people, he would do well to thoughtfully consider what the word 'love' means. That, I think, is why this show should be something everyone, or at least young adults and single middle-agers, should watch. ![]() mika_'s rating:
Day 9: Best scene ever
Ministry of silly walks! mika_'s rating:
Day 11: A show that disappointed you
The premise is appealing to those of us who love fantasy/sci fi. However, Levi's acting is subpar, the relationship between Chuck and Sara for many, many, far too many episodes went nowhere and the storylines are too formulaic to be enjoyable. Also, while they may believe that creating ass-kicking women is an advance of feminism, it really is a hindrance. Advancing feminism would be done by creating characters with different personalities (even a character that was of the submissive, fragile type so common in classical lit), not by giving all women on the show the exact same "personality" that can be defined as, simply, ass-kicker (or "strong and independent"), with dialogue consisting merely of dull statements that are meant to push the plot forward and appearing onscreen only to be gawked at and drooled over. (Note: many of the actresses are former models.) Also: the male characters suffer in turn because, to keep the illusion going, they are written out of character by turning into children at the sight of a woman, therefore seeming, by contrast, underdeveloped. Bad for both genders, but most importantly women. ![]() mika_'s rating:
Day 15: Favorite female character
Whedon women are popular examples of feminist characters in television but the Lizbean best expresses the real nature of feminism :) mika_'s rating:
Day 17: Favorite mini series
Reminds me of the song "I want to conquer the world" by Bad Religion: "I want to conquer the world Give all the idiots a brand new religion Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil Promote equality in all of my decisions With a quick wink of the eye and a "God you must be joking!" Humorously stating the horrible effects of forceful conversion. ![]() mika_'s rating:
Day 18: Favorite title sequence/theme song
La la la la la mika_'s rating:
Day 21: Favorite relationship
Colin and Ryan,of course. mika_'s rating:
Day 22: Favorite T.V. series pilot
You be the judge mika_'s rating:
Day 24: Best quote
Episode is titled Homer vs. the 18th Amendment, written by John Swartzwelder mika_'s rating:
Day 29: Current T.V. show obsession
Happening upon 'What the frak?' absolutely everywhere I decided to try the show. I put it off thinking that the religious nature of the series would turn me off, but I was surprised to find out how well the characters were drawn, how engaging the storylines were and I'm just not as anti-religious as I used to be. I'm watching and rewatching this show frequently now. ![]() mika_'s rating:
day 30: Saddest character death
SPOLIERS I'm going to assume that the death of Winifred Burkle midway between Season 5 was because Joss and his staff knew that they were to be cancelled at the end of the season. Had no cancellation been imminent the writing would not have been as rushed and Joss, I think, would've allowed the relationship of Fred and Wesley to progress. Wesley's death is also very sad. ![]() mika_'s rating:

Ministry of Silly Walks, Duck Amuck, and Colin & Ryan of Whose Line... nice! I DO want to check out B&B now that they're back on the air, just haven't yet. Loved them back in the day, so glad to hear the show is still worth watching.
