Day 2: One of your earliest encounters with the horror genre
The more I think about it, I'm now convinced this was the first horror movie I ever watched. I'd thought it was one of the Universal classics, but now I think I watched those after this one.
Day 5: Favorite horror director - George A. Romero
Between his Dead series (excluding Survival of the Dead which is crap), Creepshow, The Crazies, and Monkey Shines he's rightfully earned his spot at the top of my list.
Tried a few times to watch this, kept falling asleep before anything ever happened & eventually I gave up. And I'm pretty patient when it comes to movies.
Note: This day was originally for "An instant classic" but I couldn't decide on one, plus I was disappointed looking at my list that there aren't many old horror films on here. So I changed it.
So Michael Myers isn't in this one. Get over it. I swear if this hadn't had the Halloween name on it more people would appreciate it. Halloween III is B-movie goodness.
Supposedly the scariest movie ever, and yet I found it laughable, ridiculous, and far too serious for its own good. Or maybe it's just that I'm not scared of "The Devil".
Because people can totally breathe underwater for over 3 hours. Oh wait, maybe she was swimming & nobody saw her while they were dredging the lake. Yeah, that's it. *rolls eyes* I had this one figured out from the start.
Day 24: A movie you expected to be bad, but enjoyed
Admittedly this wasn't at all necessary, but I thought Rob Zombie did a good job with this remake. And personally I found it interesting that he came up with reasons why Michael Myers killed people, even though not knowing is far more frightening.
Actually this one's not TOO bad, but I chose it because it's the only one I've seen enough films to judge it on & come out against (I've seen the first 3 & that was enough). Otherwise I might have chosen the Leprechaun series or something.
Previously seen done by Listal user ranna (that'd be a link to her list).

Day 29: A movie you refuse to watch
Day 30: One you need to watch, a.s.a.p.
I highly recommend that you never finish Cannibal Holocaust. The last scene is atrociously bad. It's a case of "Oh crap, we just made a movie that's completely pointless and meandering... let's have a character say something at the end here that makes it seem like there was actually a purpose to all of this." The film is horrendous, totally devoid of insight or anything of interest. Way better disturbing movies out there. :)
I agree on Xanadon't's point of how great these notes are! Funny stuff. And so true. And, occasionally, state mandated.
I've been reading some horror comic books lately. Classical monsters though. Someday I'd like to watch Halloween and Friday the 13th, as those serial killers are just too endearing. Also, I don't mind a plot where one unstoppable force meets several annoying, obnoxious teenage objects that you couldn't sympathize with if they donated their splattered blood to sick children in Detroit. That's one of the cool things about the concept behind some of these characters - you don't have to sympathize with their prey and be worried for them, you can just enjoy the carnage while it lasts.
Oh, and that The Fat Boys music video we talked about a year or two ago with Freddy Krueger is killer.
I really liked some of the horror films you chose and liked. Most of the ones you hated I haven't seen. We rate horror films somewhat differently, but I think that I judge horror films a little harshly sometimes.
good list giraffe - well made...The Exorcist is damn scary if you are spiritual or religious...if not it IS laughable...but kudos for dissing Cannibal Holocaust!
Nicely done! - I was looking forward to your take on this 30 day challenge - I want to do this list as well, maybe it will be my Labor day weekend project this year. I like your choices especially American Werewolf for comedy horror and The Shining for best Stephen King movie, although I would argue Misery is just as good. Completely agree about Child's Play - after the first one, the rest are forgettable. I had no plans to watch the Halloween remake for the reason you gave about Psycho - why remake a masterpiece? - but now I might check it out during the horrorfest and I have Halloween III penciled in as my 1982 selection for October, I am fine with Michael Myers not being in it, I am just dreading watching 'the scene' again.
Awesome list! I totally agree about Halloween III, It was pretty good but people didn't give it a chance once they realized Michael Myers wasn't in it. If it had a different name people would have been all over it!
I agree completely with Halloween III. It's actually a really remarkable and creepy film, yet people can't seem to judge it as a separate film, feeling that because it has nothing to do with Michael Myers, it is somehow a bad film. Which is wrong. So I'm glad you included it here.
I liked Halloween 3, too. Very underrated flick. I hated the Halloween remake though, hahaha. I wanted to walk out on it but sat through it. Great list, I have to make my own version now.
Lots of great list notes, but I feel like this one deserves special recognition! LOL!
Good gosh, I really need to sit down and make one of these lists. They look like so much fun. Great job!!
