84C MoPic (1989)
Movie about war in Vietnam made with shoe-string budget. The word on the street is that the result is pretty impressive. I wanna decide it myself!

Yeah, go ahead, laugh away. This is the one movie that my friends keep reminding me about. Sometimes it seems everyone else in the world has seen this expect me. I don't even know myself how could I have missed this one as a child. I don't expect it to be a masterpiece or anything but I feel it's every child's (man's) obligation to see this one at least once.

Fantasia (1940)
This is the one important Disney animation that got away. I've seen most of them whether when I was child or now when I'm older but I never ran into this one back then. A mistake I intend to fix as soon as possible.

I'm more familiar with the works of Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd. For me there has never been that many opportunities to see Chaplin's films, and those few I've had, well... I seem to have successfully avoided all of them. This has to change!

Lone Star (1996)
John Sayles is also a new name for me in the front of independent cinema. Would like to get to know of him better through his most famous film.

The Mirror (1975)
As far as I know this movie has no real plot or plot as one normally understands the term, and it's more of a collection of memories and stories from Tarkovsky's own childhood. Also it's supposed to be visually stunning with every frame packed full of meaning and symbolism.

Intriguing, I must say. This one here also represents Tarkovsky's other movies as I have a lot of catching up to do.

Don't know anything about the setting or the plot of this one either. But it's radical, it's violent, it's twisted. It's... Pink Flamingos! (and don't know what the title means)

I've got vague memories that I might have seen parts of this film as a child. It's a musical of some sort, that much I know. And it has Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry in it.

But this is also supposed to be the one film that put the word 'cult' into cult movies.

Satantango (1994)
I've heard it's black & white.
I've heard it's slow paced.
And I've heard it's looooooooooooooooong as hell.

That about sums it up what I know about this film. But every trusted source and cinemaniac I know can't praise it enough. Many say it's visually stunning and claim that director Béla Tarr is genius. So I gotta know if this hype has any truth in it!

This Finnish film even got some international attention in it's time and went on winning the Golden Globe for best foreign film. Regarded by many as one of the best Finnish films out there, it also has some horror elements in it, horror being a very rare genre in Finnish cinema. I'm interested.

I don't exactly know what this Ken Jacob's epic, intellectual mindfuckfest is all about. Supposed to be kind of mixture of archive material and experimental film. Although that's partly the reason why it fascinates me. But actually going through with it and watching this... where can you even find this?

Contact ratings are just crazy with this one. Honkasalo's other works have also interested me for quite while so naturally I'm psyched.

This is one of those few features from Lynch that have slipped right past me. Or rather I've let this pass me by. Maybe one of the reasons with this one was that whole distributed-by-Disney angle. At the time I had already seen Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Lost Highway and others, most of those trademark-Lynch films. And then I go and stumble on this one and I judged the book by its cover. It just seemed to me that Lynch had sold out. Now I'm not so sure about that.

Every time I hear or read those three little words somewhere my first thought is this: why I still haven't seen that film. Finnish translation:

I'm not actually sure that this is going to be that great although contact ratings contradict me. I'm just assuming, really, because Valentin Vaala as a director means nothing to me. The film is on the list mainly because it annoys the hell out of me that I've missed it every single Midsummer it's been aired in tv. Next time I'll make damn sure that I'm ready and then we'll get to the bottom of this.

Russian Ark (2002)
This one holds the record of longest take in film (right?). Intrigued? Wait till you hear the kicker. That one take is the whole film! I know, OMG and so forth. Sokurov's name doesn't mean much to me. Yet. But I'm hoping this will change things. After this I think I'd like to see his Golden Lion winning take on Faust. Oh fudge... haven't even seen Murnau's version. Nice.

World's first feature lenght animated film. Expectations: pure cinematic craftsmanship in the truest sense of the word. Animation masterclass not to be skipped.

Begotten (1990)
Merhige's Shadow of the Vampire was interesting but now relatively forgotten horror venture into the world of silent films. However, a decade earlier Merhige made this batshit crazy quality (I'm hoping) piece where horror meets avant garde. I'm definitely going to see this one, you just try and stop me.

'Important' is a relative term here, folks. Films on this list can be seen as important in purely cinematic sense or they might be important to me personally for various reasons. Or both.

Whenever I get the chance to watch one of these films, I'll replace it with another important piece of cinema.

I have to see many of these too. Wizard of Oz, Rocky Horror and Singin' in the Rain are the best musicals I have seen, along with Grease. And you can expect a masterpiece with E.T, it is a classic.

I was thinking of doing a "films I should have already seen" kind of list, too. You've got some gems lined up here. Enjoy them!

E.T is terrible overrated. The Wizard of Oz is one of my all-time favorites.

Yeah, it needs some fresh content. Didn't even realize I had seen so many of these.
