Woo Hoo! Another year, another round of Oscar picks. I have seen none of these films. Ack... so yes... this year I have been sort of slacking of on my film watching. Still, there are some interesting choices and films that I haven't heard about before. More then a few have peaked my curiosity.
Yes, I will update this list in January with the short list and the contenders. Cheers :)
I saw this list and thought "I probably haven't seen any of them.." Turns out I've actually seen five. I'm hoping for The Intouchables (France), and A Royal Affair (Denmark) (And also Kon-Tiki, but that's mainly because I'm a bit nationalistic)
Intouchables, is just playing now at the local theater. So, it is doubtful that I'll get to see that many of the films before a winner is chosen. I'm hoping to be able to watch a few through pay-to-watch streaming sites. That seems to be one of the better options for trying to watch foreign films in the US. Still, I'll keep my eye out at the local Art House theater and keep my fingers crossed :)
I haven't seen any of these either. Too many freaking movies out there lol. I'm really excited for Oscars this time around. Really good movies this year. AFI picked some great ones for the year and most likely will be Oscar picks as well except for maybe 1-2. I have already seen half of the films chosen on AFI.
It's confusing that they call the Oscars from this year the 2013 Oscars. When I first saw the list I thought: "Why are they already submitting next years movies for consideration" lol. I get that its because they take place during 2013 but since it is for 2012 films, I think it should be called the 2012 Oscats.
BTW, is every country only allowed to submit one film? If so, I wonder how that is decided.
@brazilfashion Most countries have a national committee that decides what film to send. The qualifications for what is considered a film is rather complicated and sometimes the film that is chosen for political or technical reasons rather then artistic.
There are usually a few films that get disqualified simply because of some misunderstanding regarding paperwork.
