This is a copy of the popular 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list from the book by Steven Jay Schneider. I believe we should count all of the movies that have shown up in the 7 differant published versions of this list. So my list will be more than 1001 movies, but they are all now or have been Movies You Must See Before You Die!!
Finally finished putting this list together on Listal.
I have seen 658 of the 1,077 movies. or 61%
If anyone knows where I can watch a copy of:
Before the Revolution
The Baker's Wife
The Story of a Cheat
No Fear, No Die
A Tale of the Wind
please please let me know.
Also, I had a hard time tracking down a few of these but managed to get copies if anyone needs one for:
Man of Iron
Man of Marble
Passenger (Polish)
Heaven and Earth Magic
Utu
Three Lives and Only One Death
Me and My Gal
Also, a few of these can only be found online streaming. If you need the links to any of these, let me know.
Hold Me While I'm Naked
Ceddo
The Horse Thief
Wavelength
A Question of Silence
The Gospel According to St. Matthew
Other than that I hope you enjoy the list and can make it through. I plan on knocking out a large portion of it in 2011.
Some help for finding the movies you mentioned (maybe you found them already?):
- "Before the revolution": Available on dvd on eBay (cheap from Asia or expensive from UK)
- "The baker's wife": Available on torrent-network (as "La femme du boulanger") No English subtitles. I found subtitles in another language and translated it using google. Terrible English but understandable.
- "The story of a cheat": Available on torrent-network.
- "No fear, no die": Can't remember how I got it, can't find it anymore (except for on my own pc).
- "A tale of the wind": Entirely on youtube in 8 parts (as "Une histoire de vent").
By the way, I have a copy of every single movie on the list, so it's possible to collect them all (so streaming isn't necessary).
I only have 13 movies left to watch from the list I started working on (2005 Dutch edition, with some extra Dutch movies, which probably aren't on your list (haven't checked)). From the complete list only 39 to go.
Hi man, I'm really glad to have found your list! And see that finally someone put this list together in a very fashionable way :)
I've seen exactly 419 movies from the list (nearly 39 %) and I own 372 of them on my DVD collection! And thanks to your list I was able to divide them by decades:
8 from 1920's
18 from 1930's
22 from 1940's
39 from 1950's
47 from 1960's
56 from 1970's
72 from 1980's
57 from 1990's
53 from 2000's
So once again thanks for your list, as you can see I really enjoy it :) and I hope by this time you've knocked down that portion you were looking to do
This years edition has:
# Senna (2010)
# Le Havre (2011)
# Shame (2011)
# The Tree of Life (2011)
# The Kid with a Bike (Le Gamin au vélo) (2011)
# The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
# Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
# Drive (2011)
# War Horse (2011)
# A Separation (Jodái-e Náder az Simin) (2011)
# Bridesmaids (2011)
# The Descendants (2011)
# Hugo (2011)
# The Artist (2011)
That depends on how you count. I still have 24 movies left on my own combination list of all international and swedish editions. But I know there are other language editions out there somewhere, and this fall there will be a reworked american book. Meaning I will probably never finish this ;-)

Your list seems to be two movies short according to that list, unfortunately I have no idea what those two movies could be.
