Iron & Wine - Boy With a Coin
Boy with a coin he found in the weeds With bullets and pages of trade magazines Close to a car that flipped on the turn When God left the ground to circle the world Girl with a bird she found in the snow That flew up her gown and that's how she knows If God made her eyes for crying at birth Then left the ground to circle the Earth Boy with a coin he crammed in his jeans Then making a wish he tossed in the sea Walked to a town that all of us burn When God left the ground to circle the world mika_'s rating:
Sarah Mclachlan - Building a Mystery
You come out at night That's when the energy comes And the dark side's light And the vampires roam You strut your rasta wear And your suicide poem And a cross from a faith that died Before Jesus came You're building a mystery You live in a church Where you sleep with voodoo dolls And you won't give up the search For the Ghost in the halls You wear sandals in the snow And a smile that won't wash away Can you look out the window Without your shadow getting in the way? You're so beautiful With an edge and charm And so careful When I'm in your arms Cause you're working Building a mystery Holding on and holding it in Yeah you're working Building a mystery And choosing so carefully You woke up screaming aloud A prayer from your secret god But you feed off our fears And hold back your tears, oh You give us a tantrum And a know it all grin Just when we need one When the evening's thin You're so beautiful A beautiful fucked up man You're setting up your Razor-wire shrine Cause you're working Building a mystery Holding on and holding it in Yeah you're working Building a mystery And choosing so carefully Ooh you're working Building a mystery Holding on and holding it in Yeah you're working Building a mystery And choosing so carefully Yeah you're working Building a mystery Holding on and holding it in Yeah you're working Building a mystery And choosing so carefully You're building a mystery mika_'s rating:
Bad Religions - I Want to Conquer the World
Hey brother Christian with your high and mighty errand Your actions speak so loud I can't hear a word you're saying Hey sister bleeding heart with all of your compassion Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure Can you improve this place with the data that you gather? Hey mother mercy can your loins bear fruit forever? Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure? I want to conquer the world Give all the idiots a brand new religion Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil Promote equality in all of my decisions With a quick wink of the eye and a "God you must be joking!" Hey mister diplomat with your worldly aspirations Did you see your children cry when you left them at the station? Hey moral soldier you're got righteous proclamation And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations I want to conquer the world Give all the idiots a brand new religion Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil Promote equality in all of my decisions I want to conquer the world Expose the culprits and feed them to the children Do away with air pollution And then I'll save the whales We'll have peace on Earth And global communion I want to conquer the world mika_'s rating:
Bon Iver - Blood Bank
Well I met you at the blood bank We were looking at the bags Wondering if any of the colors Matched any of the names we knew on the tags You said "See look that's yours! Stacked on top with your brother's See how they resemble one another's Even in their plastic little covers" And I said I know it well That secret that you know But you don't know how to tell It fucks with your honor And it teases your head But you know that it's good girl 'Cause it's running you with red Then the snow started falling We were stuck out in your car You were rubbing both my hands Chewing on a candy bar You said "Ain't this just like the present To be showing up like this" As a moon waned to crescent We started to kiss And I said I know it well That secret that we know That we don't know how to tell I'm in love with your honor I'm in love with your cheeks What's that noise up the stairs babe? Is that Christmas morning creaks? And I know it well I know it well mika_'s rating:

Tori Amos - Precious Things
So I ran faster But it caught me here Yes my loyalties turned Like my ankle In the seventh grade Running after Billy Running after the rain These precious things Let them bleed Let them wash away These precious things Let them break their hold over me He said you're really an ugly girl Buy I like the way you play And I died But I thanked him Can you believe that? Sick, holding on to his picture Dressing up every day I want to smash the faces Of those beautiful boys Those Christian boys So you can make me cum that doesn't make you Jesus These precious things Let them bleed Let them wash away These precious things Let them break their hold over me I remember Yes in my peach party dress No one dared No one cared To tell me where the pretty girls are Those demigods With their nine inch nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart Of every nice girl These precious things Let them bleed Let them wash away These precious things Let them break Let them wash away These precious things Let them bleed now Let them wash away These precious things Let them break their hold over me mika_'s rating:

Bad Religion - The Voracious March of Godliness
Since the start of the 17th century There's been the scent of unseasoned wood burning in the air And the conquest of nature meant nothing at all While we betray exception we take all that's there But motives are translucent in the reflection of shame The actions ghostly remnants of our ancestral ways And unwittingly you just take your place in this parade The voracious march of Godliness makes us all the same anyway Since the dawn of our human family There's been concentrated sepsis blowing in the breeze And we turned on each other with ferocity Desperation, forced, without reprieve But the missions were misguided and the trammeled led astray The air resounds with thunder as the victor seized the day And the haunting voice of history lives ignored but not betrayed The voracious march of Godliness will get us close to Heaven one day mika_'s rating:

Andrew Bird - Heretics
Bored holes through our tongues So sing a song about it Held our breath for too long ‘Til we're half sick about it Tell us what we did wrong And you can blame us for it Turn a clamp on our thumbs We'll sew a doll about it And tell us all about it How ‘bout some credit now Where credit is due For the damage that we've done? Wrought upon ourselves and others With a slow and vicious gun And although pratfalls can be fun Encores can be fatal And then I hear you say "Thank God it's fatal Thank God it's fatal Not shy Not shy of fatal Not shy of fatal Thank God" Wait just a second now It's not all that bad Don't you count out the sun. You're making mountains of handkerchiefs Where the mascara always runs So be careful when you're done You're bound to get post-nasal What, did I just hear you say? "Thank God it's fatal" We don't want to hear the sound of a door And we don't want to read the signs that you bore You know, the kind of sign you hang on the door Saying, "we'll be back," what a crack Now don't you think we might have heard that before? Bored holes through our tongues So sing a song about it Held our breath for too long ‘Til we're half sick about it Tell us what we did wrong And you can blame us for it Turn a clamp on our thumbs We'll sew a doll about it mika_'s rating:
Propagandhi - Purina Hall of Fame
Sleeping masters roused to burning homes from beds Steeping toddlers plucked from their watery deaths Ribbons, plaques, and soft-soap are the ephemeral rewards Paid to the slaves whose selfless acts accord A higher value to their masters While parting gifts (bolt pistols) Console the rest, the remainder Too bad the tribute's paid to lives that relegate these thrones To lives spent valuing the runners-up, are known To be neither fleeting nor desirable, but nothing surprises me these days I just sit and watch the boxcars roll by and wait Patient Unattended So patient So unattended A package under A terminal bench and A short fuse to scatter Steady hands if I forget to remember That better lives have Been lived in The margins and Locked in the prisons And lost on the gallows Than have ever been enshrined in palaces It's not your fault There's nothing you can do It's just the way it is There's nothing we can do mika_'s rating:

AFI - Days of the Phoenix
I remember when I was told of story of crushed velvet, candle wax and dried up flowers The figure on the bed All dressed up in roses, calling, beckoning to sleep, offering a dream Words were as mystical as purring animals The circle of rage, the ghosts on the stage appeared The time was so tangible, I'll never let it go Ghost stories handed down reached secret tunnels below No one could see me I fell into yesterday Our dreams seemed not far away I want to, I want to, I want to stay I fell into fantasy Words were as mystical as purring animals The circle of rage, the ghosts on the stage appeared The time was so tangible, I'll never let it go Ghost stories handed down reached secret tunnels below No one could see me I fell into yesterday Our dreams seemed not far away I want to, I want to, I want to stay I fell into fantasy The girl on the wall always waited for me And she was always smiling The teenage death boys, the teenage death girls And everyone was dancing Nothing could touch us then, no one could change us then Everyone was dancing Nothing could hurt us then, no one could see us then Everyone was dancing No one could see me I fell into yesterday Our dreams seemed not far away I want to, I want to, I want to stay I fell into fantasy Our dreams seemed not far away I fell into fantasy mika_'s rating:
Iron & Wine - Upward Over the Mountain
Mother don't worry, I killed the last snake that lived in the creek bed Mother don't worry, I've got some money I saved for the weekend Mother remember being so stern with that girl who was with me? Mother remember the blink of an eye when I breathed through your body? So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten Sons are like birds, flying upward over the mountain Mother I made it up from the bruise on the floor of this prison Mother I lost it, all of the fear of the Lord I was given Mother forget me now that the creek drank the cradle you sang to Mother forgive me, I sold your car for the shoes that I gave you So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten Sons could be birds, taken broken up to the mountain Mother don't worry, I've got a coat and some friends on the corner Mother don't worry, she's got a garden we're planting together Mother remember the night that the dog had her pups in the pantry? Blood on the floor, fleas on their paws, and you cried till the morning So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten Sons are like birds, flying always over the mountain mika_'s rating:
Counting Crows - Anna Begins
My friend assures me, "It's all or nothing" I am not worried, I am not overly concerned My friend implores me, "For one time only Make an exception" I am not worried Wrap her up in a package of lies, send her off to a coconut island I am not worried, I am not overly concerned about the status of my emotions "Oh," she says, "you're changing" We're always changing It does not bother me to say this isn't love 'Cause if you don't want to talk about it then it isn't love And I guess I'm gonna have to live with that But I'm sure there's something in a shade of gray or something in between And I can always change my name, if that's what you mean My friend assures me, "It's all or nothing" But I am not really worried, I am not overly concerned You try to tell yourself the things you try to tell yourself To make yourself forget, to make yourself forget I am not worried "If it's love," she said, "then we're going to have to think about the consequences" And she can't stop shaking and I can't stop touching her And this time when kindness falls like rain, it washes her away And Anna begins to change her mind "These seconds when I'm shaking leave me shuddering for days," she says And I'm not ready for this sort of thing But I'm not gonna break and I'm not gonna worry about it anymore I'm not gonna bend and I'm not gonna break, I'm not going to worry about it anymore It seems like I should say, "as long as this is love" But it's not all that easy so maybe I should Snap her up in a butterfly net, pin her down on a photograph album I am not worried, I've done this sort of thing before But then I start to think about the consequences And I don't get no sleep in a quiet room And then this time when kindness falls like rain It washes me away and Anna begins to change my mind Every time she sneezes I believe it's love And, Oh Lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing She's talking in her sleep, it's keeping me awake And Anna begins to toss and turn And every word is nonsense but I understand And, Oh Lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing Her kindness bangs a gong It's moving me along And Anna begins to fade away It's chasing me away She disappears and Oh Lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing mika_'s rating:

Joanna Newsom - Colleen
I'll tell it as I best know how And that's the way it was told to me I must have been a thief or a whore Then surely was thrown overboard Where they say I came this way from the deep blue sea It picked me up and tossed me round I lost my shoes and tore my gown I forgot my name And drowned Then woke up with the surf a-pounding It seemed I had been run aground Well they took me in and shod my feet And taught me prayers for chastity And said my name would be Colleen And I was blessed among all women To have forgotten everything And as the weeks and months ensued I tried to make myself of use I tilled and planted, but could not produce Not root, nor leaf, nor flower, nor bean; Lord It seemed I overwatered everything And I hate the sight of that empty air Like stepping for a missing stair And falling forth forever blindly Cannot grab hold of anything No, not I, most blessed among Colleens I dream some nights of a funny sea as soft as a newly born baby It cries for me pitifully And I dive for my child with a wildness in me And am so sweetly there received But last night came a different dream A gray and sloping-shouldered thing Said "What's cinched 'round your waist, Colleen? Is that my very own baleen? No! Have you forgotten everything?" This morning 'round the cape at dawn Some travelers sailed into town With scraps for sale and the saddest songs And a book of pictures, leather-bound, that Showed a whale with a tusk a meter long Well, I asked the man who showed it me "What is the name of that strange beast?" He said its name translated roughly to He-Who-Easily-Can-Curve-Himself-Against-The-Sky And I am without words He says, "My lady looks perturbed (The light is in your eyes, Colleen)" I said, "Whatever can you mean?" He leaned in and said "You ain't forgotten everything" "You dare to speak a lady's name?" He said, "My lady is mistaken I would not speak your name in this place And if I were to try then the wind I swear Would rise to tear you clean from me without a trace" "Have you come, then, to rescue me?" He laughed and said, "From what, 'Colleen'?" You dried and dressed most willingly You corseted and caught the dread disease By which one comes to know such peace" Well, it's true that I came to know such things as The laws which govern property And herbs to feed the babes that wean And the welting weight for every season But still I don't know any goddamned "Colleen" Then dive down there with the lights to lead That seem to shine from everything Down to the bottom of the deep blue sea Down where your heart beats so slow And you never in your life have felt so free Will you come down there with me? Down where our bodies start to seem like Artifacts of some strange dream Which afterwards you can't decipher And so, soon, have forgotten Everything Iron & Wine - Rabbit Will Run
Last I saw mother she rose from her chair When they caught me I'd just finished combing my hair 'Cause a rabbit will run and the colt hasn't long with the mare We've all learned the earth while we've carried the throne We dove under the rivers and under our clothes And I still have a prayer as sure as my settling bones Last I saw mother she covered my ears When they caught me I offered the captain a beer 'Cause the rabbit will run and the lion has nothing to fear We bricked up the garden and know what it means And we've all kissed a virgin as if she were clean And I still have a prayer despite all the colors I've seen And judgment is just like a cup that we share I'll jump over the wall and I'll wait for you there Well past the weeds in our vision of things to come We've all heard the rooster and all been denied And we've seen through the haze and the spit in our eyes And I still have a prayer, a well-weathered word to the wise Last I saw mother she smelled like a rose When they caught me, the captain, he opened my nose 'Cause the rabbit will run and the wind takes a bird where it blows We've all traded lovers and woke up alone And we've clapped for the king though our fingers were cold And I still have a prayer 'cause I love what I cannot control Last I saw mother she acted surprised When they caught me, the captain, he cried like a child 'Cause the rabbit will run, good dogs together go wild We've all lived in grace at the end of the day And we've armed all the children we thought we betrayed And I still have a prayer but too few occasions to pray And judgment is just like a cup that we share I'll jump over the wall and I'll wait for you there Well past the weeds in our vision of things to come And we've all found a reason for hiding a gun And we've helped out a few if we've hurt anyone And I still have a prayer and, so be it, I've done what I've done Last I saw mother, she blew me a kiss When they caught me, the cuffs cut the blood from my wrist 'Cause the rabbit will run and the pig has to lay in it's piss We've all given half to the hand in our face We've all taken a stone from the holiest place And I still have a prayer and I've furthered the world in my wait mika_'s rating:
Conflict - This is the A.L.F.
What does direct action mean? It means that you are no longer prepared to sit back and allow terrible, cruel things to happen The cameraman in Ethiopia took direct action, he filmed the worst disaster that has ever happened to human beings He realized it was too enormous a problem to handle himself--so he took the films home in the hope other people would help. They did. Are you prepared to sit back any longer? Direct action in animal rights means causing economic damage to those who abuse and make profits from exploitation Start! It's possible to do things alone, slash tires, glue up locks Butchers, burger bars, the furriers, smash windows, bankrupt the lot Throw paint over shops and houses. Paint stripper works great on cars Chewing gum sticks well to fur coats. A seized engine just won't start Sand in the petrol tank means that delivery's going nowhere When the new death shop opens up make sure you're the first person to be there If the circus comes to town remember what goes up must come down Stop contributing to the abuse yourself--don't eat meat, don't buy leather Buy non-animal tested make up, herbal soap and shampoo's better Try and form a group of people that you know that you can trust And plan ambitious direct action, sometimes risky but a must Only when you have animal liberation will we obtain human freedom When the last vivisectionist's blade is snapped It will be that one step nearer to peace Direct action in the animal movement is sussed and strong And our final goal is not far off Animal lovers, vandals, hooligans, cranks Recognize the labels? They say we don't care about human beings We say all sentient beings, animal or human Have the right to live, free from pain, torture, and suffering They say because we are human and speak the same, we matter more Is our pain and suffering any greater or lesser than that of animals? Human v. animal rights is as much a prejudice as black v. white Or the Nazis versus the Jews An affront to our freedom Vivisection is a violation of human beings, the same as it is for animals We have a chemical world built on a pile of drugs to thanks for their experiments Drugs are designed for profit, manufactured to suppress symptoms Human freedom, animal rights: it's one struggle, one fight When animal abuse is stopped then human abuse will soon stop also An attitude of mind. "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" Start by protecting the weak, the defenseless, animals, the sick, the disabled Compassion and emotion are our most important safety values If we lose them, then we lose the vitality of life itself Emotional? They paved paradise And put up a parking lot With a pink hotel, a boutique And a swinging hot spot Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot They took all the trees Put 'em in a tree museum And they charged the people A dollar and a half just to see 'em Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot Hey farmer farmer Put away that DDT now Give me spots on my apples But leave me the birds and the bees Please! Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot Late last night I heard the screen door slam And a big yellow taxi Took away my old man Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot They paved paradise And put up a parking lot mika_'s rating:

Well, I know it's just a spring haze But I don't much like the look of it And if omens are a Godsend like men Breezing in Certain these clouds go somewhere Billowing out to somewhere In a single engine Cessna You say we'll never make it there So all we do is circle it Uh oh, let go, off on my way Unseen this eternal wanting Uh oh, way to go, so I get creamed Waiting for Sunday to drown Uh oh, way to go, waiting on Sunday Waiting on Sunday to land Uh oh, way to go, waiting on Sunday Waiting on Sunday to drown So I know it's just a spring haze But I don't much like the look of it And all we do is circle it And I found out where my edge is And it bleeds into where you resist And my only way, way out Is to go so far in Billowing out to somewhere Billowing out Luna Riviera Billowing out to somewhere Uh oh, let go, off on my way Unseen this eternal wanting Let go, so if I really get creamed Waiting for Sunday to drown Waiting on Sunday to drown Why does it always end up like this? Why does it always end up like this? Why does it always end up like this? Let go, uh oh, off on my way Unseen this eternal wanting Let go, way to go, before I get creamed Waiting on Sunday to drown Uh oh, way to go, waiting on Sunday Waiting on Sunday to land Uh oh, waiting on, waiting on Sunday Waiting on Sunday to drown Waiting on Sunday to drown Waiting on Sunday Waiting on Sunday to land Uh oh, so if I really get creamed I'm waiting for Sunday to drown mika_'s rating:

Some days we're ripped and torn away From the shore and tossed to a watery grave Set adrift in the depths of the drink in the hands of the gods we curse We call for help when no one's around Shot down fleeting thoughts never make a sound Set adrift in the depths of the dark in the heart of the sea where we wish I feel it in my bones when the storm is close Then await for the rain and the wind to blow As dark colors fill the sky I'm drenched and feeling so alive Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat We all carry the tune we love Think of home when the waves and the going get tough Hold our breath and go down with the wish of just one last kiss to rest I feel it in my bones when the storm is close Then await for the rain and the wind to blow As dark colors fill the sky I'm drenched and feeling so alive Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat mika_'s rating:
