With eight successful seasons, That '70s Show is the second longest FOX sitcom in history behind Married with Children (11 seasons). If Friends were born in the 80s, it would probably just looked like that! And they found two stars that count today: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. This bunch of friends then with its own codes and delusions is certainly iconic.

Will & Grace (1998)
(1998-2006)
Launched in the peak of Friends success , Will & Grace is a pretty instant ratings success for NBC, who programs the following seasons behind its flagship sitcom, thereby greatly increasing its popularity. A daring bet -the homosexuality of two of the main characters ws a curiosity for the period- met with flying colors! The TV Show makes its way to changing attitudes, like Ellen a few years earlier.

When Friends ended in 2004, Will & Grace survives him two more seasons, becoming the most-watched comedy on fetish target advertisers, ( the 18 / 49 years old), all networks combined. The final brings together 18 million Americans. Thus, relatively speaking, Will & Grace may be considered the first successor of Friends.

Coupling (2000)
(2003)
While Friends is about to come to an end, NBC was looking logically for a succession planning and chose to adapt the British Tv hit Six Sexy (Coupling), considered the local Friends. Steven Moffat, the creator of the original version was hired and was on the adventure, but it is not enough to replicate the success in the United States. The broadcast is canceled after four weeks, while 10 episodes were produced. The new Friends, this is not it.

Joey (2004)
(2004-2005)
Coupling has not converted the try, NBC turns to the creators of Friends to develop a spin-off about the cult show. Various projects are planned (a spin-off about Phoebe Buffay as example), but finally the one on Joey is retained. Two iconic writers of the show are designed for writing the pilot, while the creators refused to take part in the project, hoping to turn the page of Friends. The pilot pleases the chain that owns "Friends".

The expectations are enormous , both on the part of viewers than NBC. But the results of reviewing of the first season are hardly convincing.Joey is certainly renewed but season 2 carries catastrophic scores. The public is not (quite) present and not enough to start work on a third season. The second is even reduced to 14 episodes instead of the 22 originally planned.

"Friends" successor will not be an old "Friend".

If there is indeed a tv show that has managed to replace even a few of "Friends" in the hearts of millions of fans around the world, it will be "How I Met Your Mother"! The comparison between the two sitcoms was been made since its launch and has continued. This new group of friends is engaging, which has evolved over the years, but soon managed to exist by itself, including through less conventional narrative of their adventures and more complex, allowing flashbacks and jumps in times, earning him the reputation of "Lost as a sitcom". A character like Barney has a greater influence on popular culture or a that Joey or a Monica.

The Class (2006)
(2006)
Following the growing success of How I Met Your Mother, CBS launched the second comedy about young adults, specifically on former high school classmates who find themselves a few years later. The cast is composed mostly of newcomers (which will be re talking about them later as Lizzy Caplan, Jason Ritter, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jon Bernthal). The co-creator of the series is none other than ... David Crane co-creator of Friends! In short, the comedy starts auspiciously.

Yet it is canceled after its first season due to fragile and fickle audiences. 8.7 million viewers on average have followed the 19 episodes of the sitcom. Not sufficient at the time, but loinn be ridiculous. The Class wins in passing the award for "Best New Comedy" of the season, awarded by the public at the People's Choice Awards. Maybe if the string had been more patient, she would eventually take off. We must not forget that Friends, in his first season was almost canceled ...

The Big Bang Theory (2007-)
With The Big Bang Theory, CBS succeeded where its failed with "the Class". This comedy centered on a group of geeks-then the big trend of the moment- seduced viewers of How I Met Your Mother aired the previous half hour. However, the requirements of the tv network being very high, it is on the brink of cancellation in its first season, averaging 8.4 million viewers. But CBS did not made the same mistake with The Class and offers the sitcom a second chance next season.

The quirks of the character of Sheldon made sensation, some expressions enter the collective popular unconscious as the famous "Bazingaaaa!" and the public is more likely to follow it every week ... until today become the # 1 sitcom in the United States. Its actors are also now part of the highest paid club on television.

Cougar Town (2009)
Cougar Town (2009-)
6 years after the end of "Friends" and a virtually non-existent film and television career, Courteney Cox, the former Monica, returns to the center stage in a comedy called Cougar Town. If Reviews are not great at first, artistic adjustments in the intrigues allowed it to be more attractive ... but the name of the series is no longer meaningful! Cougars-a simple phenomenon- to go more towards a series of classic mates where heroes work little and spend a lot of time on the couches of each other. Does it remind us anything? It was precisely intended to rename the show "Friends with beverages!" But it will not succeed.

Happy Endings (2011)
(2011-2013)
The gang of Happy Endings, is totally crazy, with its own codes and eccentricities, had everything you need to succeed with dignity to "Friends" ... except the audience! Aired on ABC after Modern Family at the beginning, it was never able to capture the attention of fans of the family series. Shunned to the end of its distribution, its three seasons are nevertheless small jewelry delusions, with talented players that we certainly will often revise (Zachary Knighton, Eliza Coupe, Damon Wayans Jr.) .. .

New Girl (2011)
(2011-)
The 90s had Friends, the 2000 How I Met Your Mother ... the 2010s could have New Girl! After an excellent start on FOX, the comedy led by the bubbly Zooey Deschanel reveals itself too erratic to qualified as the new "Friends". The formula does not fully completely and audiences are quick to lose their colors. However, it can rely on its share of faithful followers but will not become as popular as his models.

(2014)
The last season of How I Met Your Mother was announced a year in advance, CBS was able to prepare his succession and developing several projects in this direction. It's Friends with better lives requiring attention. Thirties friends all lead a life that dissatisfied, they are eternal single, married or recently separated. Worse, they are jealous of each other, convinced that they would be happier by sharing their daily ... James Van Der Beek and Kevin Connolly are part of the distribution.

The first episode is broadcast after the end of How I Met -so controversial-, giving it a maximum visibilty. The public does not seem to hang and, at present, a second season is far from assured.
