They were formed in 1968, but they really had there biggest impact in the early 70's.
I would also like to see Thin Lizzy there one day. They were formed in 1969. The Allman Brothers first album was already released that year, so I wouldn't say they were copying them. As for Lynyrd Skynyrd, they actually started with 3 lead guitarists instead of 2. Wishbone Ash may have been inspired by them. I agree they were probably the best Irish band out there. The 60's band Them with Van Morrison would probably be second. I hate U2.
I am a fan of Scorpions, Priest, and Nirvana, but I think it is too soon for them to join.
