Ryugyong Hotel – Pyongyang, North Korea

A testament to North Korea’s insanity, construction began during a famine. Not surprisingly the building was never finished although they did eventually manage to coat it with glass to make it look more presentable.

Mirny Diamond Mine – Eastern Siberia, Russia

This massive hole was dug by Stalin in order to mine for diamonds. It was proved too difficult to continue mining, however, and efforts were eventually abandoned.

After the Chernobyl Reactor meltdown the city was abandoned due to nuclear fallout and it will probably remain abandoned for quite some time to come.
