Bandai picks up Gurren Lagann anime

Gurren Lagann got bucked by ADV earlier this year, along with nearly every other title they licensed after some deal with one of their Japanese partners fell through. They got most back but Gurren Lagann was up in the air, despite them already having the first DVD literally ready to ship. WEll, somehow or other, Bandai mentioned at New York Comic Con, they now have the rights to distribute it in the US and I couldn't be happier. It will be released with just subs first, in July and dubs will come later on. Here's a snippet of the panel: Yay!

Or maybe it's because this kid I ran into that recommend this show to me really really just creeped me out. I don't want to watch that panel but when you mean rights to distribute (with subs only) do you mean streaming video? Maybe I'm behind the times (I probably am since I gave up on life in general) but wasn't ADV doing that already? What happened with that? EDIT: Oh. Nevermind, I just read ANN. I was wondering what the dealio was with ADV a few months ago.

I'm not really intimate with Gurren Lagann but it's Gainax and Gainax shows tended to be more of the (supposed) hardcore otaku type things. Somehow I doubt 4Kids would acquire it. And if they did the subsequent sh**storm would have been quite something. And you can Google things you don't know. THATS why I posted it. EDIT: Plus, Bandai is relatively well-known, I noticedBandai and decided to post.

It's not some long running shounen thing. Well, actual discussion usually isn't something that's like "ohoho good thing 4Kids didn't get it" it's actually closer to trolling, by I digress. I just love instigating things. Oh and since you mention Bandai, it might be a good time to mention this is Bandai Entertainment, not Visual so hopefully wallet crying will be a minimum. Oh shoot! Who is doing the dub? I'm rather fond of the ADV crew to tell the truth but that's not a possibility anymore ahahahaha.

I wanted to get Wings of Honneamise but to get the DVD you'd either have to buy the Blu-Ray or HD DVD version to get the regular DVD version but retail price for them is about $80. Bandai Entertainment ain't that bad though since they have these nice little series sets that are relatively cheap and nice. I like having a complete series and not having it take up a whole shelf. And individual discs run for about the normal price of anime these days so it's aight by me.

That doesn't sound like too bad a deal to me. A dub from Bandai won't come until early 2009. As long as it isn't 4Kids I am fine with it... whatever Gurren Lagann is... It is the most awesome anime of 2007, is what it is. Emphasis on awesome. How can an anime with giant, dimension shattering robots the size of galaxies not be awesome, right? It's basically a homage to all the classic giant mecha anime of decades past. You should all watch it.

Well in that case throws out Godannar Robotech, who needs that? See if people would just explain like that and not have to be all creepy about it I might just be interested in watching it. Holy shiznicks?! 9 Episodes? But is that sub only or what? (Nonetheless that's still a fracking good deal)

I thought ADV had the first few episodes up or something for free. But they lost the license... EDIT: Hm... Not a bad deal. But I doubt most of the fans will buy it. I might one day, theoretically. I wonder what's going to happen with the ADV dub though...

I'm not too worried about Black Lagoon as I am with the other items from the Geneon catalog. It's pretty popular and could be targeted to more mainstream audiences. Oh how I long for someone to pick up Saiunkoku Monogatari. sdkfbkhdkashfhdsdkhf Or at least finish season two of Kyo Kara Maoh! There's a third season that needs licensing as well... Oh yeah, they had Higurashi too didn't they? Gah! Why did they license all these shows and die?
