Boom Blox - new Wii game from Steven Spielberg

Prelude VIP Moderator Rank : 1	Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago at Apr 11 18:14 - Let me start off by saying I'm a little surprised this game is coming out in less than a month and I'm the only one listing it as 'wanted' (and i don't even own a Wii)... hehe.. So I figured I should make a thread, coz maybe nobody even knows about this game. Its one of my top reasons to eventually get a Wii system, perhaps even as much as Wii Fit, Wii Kart, and Mario Galaxy. To those who don't know about this game Boom Blox, it's a game that plays on the joy of building up an impressive structure and then smashing it to smithereens. If that doesn't scream 'must-get-game', I don't know what does. :) Developed by EA Los Angeles and with the guidance of Steven Spielberg who came up with the concept, it hits the stores on May 6th. In addition to perfectly suiting the motion sensing Wiimote, Boom Blox will also include a form of Wiimote headtracking using LED sensors, so the in-game camera will adjust depending on players' own point of view, allowing for unprecedented game immersion. I plan on doing this from time to time for certain upcoming titles that interest me, as well as to shamelessly plug my New Game Releases lists. You guys ok with these sort of game preview threads? At the very least, it gives some games more exposure, and at very best, may promote better discussions on here for new and existing games. If there is a title you are very interested in, I encourage you start up similar threads. also, if there is an upcoming title you can't wait for, but don't know HTML to make such a preview thread, PM me and I'll help you out. cheers, fellow gamers... 2008 is turning out to be a bitchin' year)
Prelude VIP Moderator Rank : 1	Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago at Apr 11 18:46 - From a Feb. 6th press conference: Boom Blox is the first product of the partnership between EA and the famed filmmaker that was announced at E3 Media & Business Summit last year. The game is a family-friendly Wii title, which has players building and knocking down sets of blocks. It will also feature an in-game editor so gamers can create their own levels. It was revealed today that there will be single-player, co-op, and versus game modes, over 300 levels, and more than 30 "wacky" characters. Spielberg explained at E3 that game development had always intrigued him and went on to say, "I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids." The movie director said that the inspiration for the game came from using the Wii controller. The esteemed director isn't entirely a video game newbie--he conceived the original idea for LucasArts' point and click adventure The Dig and is also working on another project in conjunction with EA, which is promised to be a "contemporary action-packed adventure... set against the backdrop of an epic story". No title or shipping time frame for this title has been disclosed, but EA has revealed the game will be coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
Deleted Rank : 44557	Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago at Apr 11 22:16 - Why'd you have to shoot me down over my enthusiasm for Boom Blox? It looks like there's some pretty massive immersion in play. I hope people'll stop dreaming about "virtual reality" gaming when, for all practical purposes, this is being achieved. The reason this fantasy bothers me is because it turns up dead soil like the poor man's DVD and not-so-revolutionary ideas for systems like Virtual Boy. (if no one minds, I too will consistently plug my video uploads in threads like these)

Deleted Rank : 44557	Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago at Apr 11 23:36 - Kind of like the sky in Batman: Vengeance, eh? Boom Blox has fairly simplistic graphics, but they're tight within their simplicity. No blotching and whatnot (like in video). You can't complain there.
