What's your favorite films that either made you cry, or at the least, gave you a fierce lump in back of your throat as you fought it back. :)
Describe the scene(s) as well.

Mine (not in any particular order):

- Forrest Gump (scene when he misses Jenny, and scene when he meets his son)

- Kolya (when Kolya cries for his grandma)

- Sweet Hereafter (slow-motion scene when the school bus plunges thru the ice, as a father of a couple of the kids looks on in horror)

- Gladiator (the ending, when he goes to Erithia to meet his wife and son)

- 21 Grams (when the mother loses it while holding her daughter's shoes)

- I am Sam (a few good scenes throughout)

Hmmm, for me two movies both starring 'Tom Hanks' gave huge emtional jerks:

Cast Away: Basically all his scene's when he is left alone in the island, and specially when he looses his friend "Watson" on the way to his rescue in the sea.

The Terminal: When he reads the news of his country under attack, and can barely make out what is going out, enclosed in the huge airport, having known nothing.

Both these movies were kinda tear jerkers for me :)

All I can think of is Big Fish. The ending always makes me smile and feel a little teary-eyed, but generally I'm not one to cry at movies.

As a romantic:
The Notebook - When they become elderly and lay down together in the home.
Pretty in Pink - When Molly's character confronts McCarthy's at school.

Also:
Hotel Rwanda - about 80% of the movie.

And a movie that should have made me cry, but didn't:
We Are Marshall ... that movie was disappointing.

Truth be told... I'm a big cryer. I am incredibly empathetic, so the moment someone on screen tears up, I'm crying with them. It's incredibly embarrassing.

I NEVER cry! And yet, one movie always gets me close: Deep Impact.

yeah, Deep Impact had some good moments. I loved that film so much more than that Hollywood flubber 'Armageddon'. The scene where the astronaut talks to his wife 'n' child via live conference call, just before they decide to sacrifice themselves to save the world, that usually gets me.

Dumbo is pretty sad up until the end. I watch this one constantly with this non-verbal autistic boy. It's one of his favorites. I think my favorite part is the "Elephants on Parade" scene. This is another movie about a lost child, where Mrs. Jumbo gets locked up just for defending her son.

I've never actually cried during a movie (yet), but I've gotten close on a few...

The whole last act of Million Dollar Baby got to me pretty good.

The end of Limelight was touching, and Chaplin was always a pretty masterfully manipulative melodramatic filmmaker (see City Lights, Modern Times, The Kid, etc).

Speaking of melodrama, William Wyler's version of Wuthering Heights is chock full of heart wrenching moments thanks to the brilliant performance of Lawrence Olivier. It's a crime that this movie isn't available on DVD here in the US.

Carlito's Way managed to surprise me even though the ending is revealed literally at the beginning of the film. Pacino's closing monologue, the slow-mo first-person camera, everything about that final scence is really wonderful.

And, of course, there's Dancer in the Dark. Even though I thought it was brilliant, it took me a few years before I was willing to watch it a second time because it was so darned depressing.

Sense and Sensibility when Elinor rages at Marianne saying "What do you know of my heart? What do you know of anything but your own suffering...." - gets me every single time.

And also The Joy Luck Club. I can hold back the tears but at the end, I can't help but bawl.

Born Free. Seen it tons of times and always cry at the end.

Also, Mandy Moore's A Walk to Remember. That movie was just ridiculously full of sad moments.

Prelude, I teared up just during the trailer for that movie when I realized why the character was the way he was. Tough subject.

Vix, good one! Love those period romance and they always get me, too.

voxy, the movie is hard to watch, but oddly enough still has lots of cute and funny moments. but when he first opens up and starts talking about what he misses about is wife and each of his 3 daughters, man, it was tough to hold back.

great movie, and i'm impressed that Sandler pulled off such an emotional and hard role.

Terminator 2 - I cried like a baby.

Also the Korean film Brotherhood (Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War) caught me off guard at the end and I had a pretty large lump in my throat. It was a very emotional finale.

What type of tears are we jerking here? I didn't cry, but Pursuit of Happyness is pretty inspiring. Oh, and don't forget the Death Wish movies where he keeps racking up animate and yet deceased loved ones, even though he doesn't shed a tear!

Sad moments in movies drain my tear supply. ;_;

The movie that I have watched multiple times over the years and still makes me cry each time I see it is My Life with Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman.

And also, Steel Magnolias ...that one gets me every time as well.

T2:Judgement Day
DreamCatcher

T2 just at the very end when Arnold slowly desends into the fire...with his thumb up like it feels great like a warm bath.
DreamCatcher b/c of Duttis. The character knew that what he did would cost him his life and was not unnerved about it at all.
Maybe I am just a big softee really.

Downfall
I cried a few times during this film. It was very powerful and very tragic.

The Elephant Man
I cried constantly. I got goose-bumps whenever John Merrick said something. It's a tragic but brilliant movie.

Deep Impact It doesn't matter how many times I see it, and how cheesy it is.

Finding Neverland I sobbed throughout and was left with a sense of loss for days afterwards.

As the "Queen of Sad Movies", I'm glad to see Finding Neverland was mentioned several times. I love to cry, the same way most people love scary movies or thrillers (which I don't particularly like). My "go to" movie, when I want a good cry is always Four Weddings and a Funeral. I can practically quote every line and start to tear up even before the sad part, because I know it's coming. Others I recommend are The Cure, Sliding Doors, The Little Princess, Six Weeks, Somewhere in Time, and the most melodramatic claptrap ever, but makes me ball for hours is It's My Party. Just to name a few.

I have to admit that, as a guy, I don't have too many. But here are a rare few that can make me misty.

5. Streetwise - A documentary with an emotionally wrenching ending, because it's real life & not a script. This film focuses those who are easily forgotten & brings to the surface their reality & all the drama & emotion that the world of escapism entertainment can never really compare to.

4. Fried Green Tomatoes - I like mine with a touch of salt & a dash of tabasco sauce.

3. Whale Rider - The main character in this movie triumphs over the ages old belief that in order to be a chieftain, one must be a male. And in the process, she makes both that old tradition and a whale her b#tchez.
Girl Power!

2. Bridges of Madison County - A truly romantic story of how the escapist fantasy high/feeling that initially results with falling in love must eventually be realistically dealt with as the conditions & responsibilities of one's current situation come quickly creeping back in. I once heard that, in the context of human history, couples pairing up for the sake of true love is still relatively young. We as a species over-all , have not evolved enough yet to be able to deal & accept each other in a manner that would be considered as unconditional love ( which is the only real love). And it is because of this that the world population has yet been unable to formulate an effective means of discussion that would truly begin a process of unity between it's racial, social & gender factions. And maybe this is why so many of us make decisions more for the sake of security, emotionally as well as socially & financially . Decisions that may impede on our ability to follow our hearts & therefore sway us , individually and socially, from a path that would lead us to true love before it's too late.

1. Joy Luck Club - I was supposed to take my girlfriend at the time to go see this movie, but she was one of those type of girls that in order to get attention, whenever I would call her to tell her that I was on my way to pick her up, she would always tell me to come right over, but that she couldn't guarantee that she would still wanta to go out when I arrived, cuz as always 4 her, she was feelin' like she was comin' down with some sort of sickness or somethin'. So, on this day, I had decided to that I had had enough, called her on her bluff, & then told her to that we would just skip the whole thing & she can stay home & get better ( what she actually wanted was for me to go "Aww, you poor thing!" & come over & "baby" her *eyes roll*). So then, I went to go see this movie by myself, just to p#ss her off. By the time this stunningly moving Oliver Stone epic-fare was over, I could feel that my eyes had actually become substantially watered.
Right there & then, I knew that my relationship with my girlfriend was over.
Cuz no one makes me cry my own tears.
No one.
