This game should have been a Halo killer. Why didn't it? Because all those whiny little wussies can't handle how freakin fast and awesome this game was. Seriously, I loved playing this game in college and I would have Halo fanboy's try it, all they would do is whine and complain that it was too fast for them to keep up. Really? REALLY?!? When Rare made GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, they created the best first-person shoot-'em-up the world had ever seen and, arguably, has ever seen to this day. Many of the geniuses behind the game left Rare shortly after to set up their own company, Free Radical. Their first game was the rather rushed (in time for the PS2's launch) TimeSplitters, but this sequel is polished to perfection and easily one of the best games of the year.
One of the main problems with the original TimeSplitters was its awful single-player mode, but this has been totally revamped for the sequel, with a proper story mode, all-new time zones and weapons, and absolutely mountains of unlockable hidden extras. Thankfully they've kept the wicked sense of humor from the first game, but there's also a lot more strategy for solo players this time around, including an amusing homage to GoldenEye's Arkangelsk Dam level, along with pastiches of other games and films scattered throughout the game.
The real reason for TimeSplitters 2's greatness, though, is the multiplayer mode. This is GoldenEye to the nth degree, with superbly designed levels, tons of weapons, and all sorts of tricks and gimmicks, such as remote-control gun turrets and invisibility pills. It may lack the epic scope of Halo, but in multiplayer mode at least this is a lot more fun--and fun, as the Beatles never said, is all you need. --David Jenkins, Amazon.co.uk

The evil race of TimeSplitters are traveling back in time, authoring events that are leading to the enslavement of mankind. Controlling a motley crew of renegade characters, you must hunt down the TimeSplitters across environments such as the gangster-filled 1920s, the lush jungles of Aztec temples, Soviet military installations of the cold war, and futuristic robot factories in space.
The game delivers an involved single-player and cooperative story mode, with a complex narrative, multiple objective-based episodes, and animated cutscenes. The game engine has been extensively upgraded to accommodate bigger environments and special graphical effects. The MapMaker has also been enhanced, opening up even more potential to the advanced gamer looking for customizable game scenarios.

"College. While the Xboxers had their Halo, my friends and I were perfecting our wicked-fast precision shooter skills on this crazy fast excuse for a game. Yelling "MONKEYS WITH PLASMA RIFLES!" became an inside joke with the guys on my dorm floor."

"Another game that didn't mind killing off one of the main characters. Given Hart is not nearly as important as Cortez but still, it came as a shock to me. Humorously they still included her, despite her death, as a deathmatch skin option in the third timesplitters game. Then the space station explodes and they all die.

"Corporal Hart
The Corporal was another great female heroine who feared nothing. She would blaze into battle even before the crazy Sergeant Cortex, she was that nuts. I have no idea what is up with her outfit but it was still pretty cool."

Halo is the holy-grail of gaming to you and everything else sucks? Get out of your shell and play a real game, like Timesplitters 2.
Ok besides may anti-Halo rant, this game really is awesome. It's got a pretty decent single-player campaign. You travel through time to stop the bad guys, got it. But the multiplayer is where it's at. Countless hours of my college life were lost with my friends playing this game in my dorm room. Hook in a multi-tap ” read more

"2002
You can keep your Halo, TimeSplitters 2 is where it's at when it came to shooters. Way more fast-paced and just chaotic, it felt like a new Unreal Tournament; my Halo-fanatic friends couldn't handle it. With the 4-player multitap my dormmates and I lost many hours of sleep and should-be studying hours playing this game. I can't count the times "MONKEYS WITH PLASMA RIFLES!" was yelled either, yeah it's that good.
Runner Up:
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City"

"Oh my gosh I spent so much time in college playing this game. Good FPS controllers? Check. Funny and fun story? Check. 4 player splitscreen (yeah I had a multitap)? Check. MONKEYS WITH PLASMA RIFLES!?!?! CHECK! This game should have been a Halo killer with it's quick-snap controllers, fast gameplay, and humorous characters. I always preferred this over other shooters on my Ps2."
