Sequels are a risky proposition. While most will agree there's a lot less at stake when extending a known property than creating a new one, a bad sequel can absolutely shatter a customer's faith in a product line. When one speaks of bad sequels and the consequences surrounding them, one can't help but think of Xenosaga II where the developers wound up so far off base it wasn't even funny. Games wi... read more

Syphon Filter 2 introduces a new set of objectives requiring smarts, stealth and a steady aim while running (and kneeling, crouching, walking, rolling, climbing, jumping) through multiple levels.
In the game, players assume the roles of secret agents Gabriel Logan and Lian Xing. Framed for a crime they did not commit, the two must race against the clock in order to prevent the sale of the Syphon Filter virus to a terrorist nation. Played from a third-person point of view, the story takes gamers from the streets of Moscow to the Agency's secret Syphon Filter lab. Such a dangerous mission requires effective weapons and gadgets; naturally, the agency provides an arsenal of more than 25 enemy-stoppers, including a cross bow, a sniper rifle with a night-vision scope, tear gas, binoculars and other goodies. New to the series is a two-player, split-screen mode featuring fast head-to-head combat action in 20 arenas. --Eric Twelker

Much like the sequels to other popular games Syphon Filter 2 doesn't change too much from the last game. Granted it sticks to it's winning formula more than Tomb Raider II where the deviation seems slight yet is anything but - the only new additions are that enemies can get head shots on you and a new aiming system for grenades - the main draw "

"Syphon Filter 2 sticks with what it knows and gives fans more of the same with a few tweaks and improvements. While it’s not exactly the most inspiring blueprint for a sequel, the strategy’s a success until the narrative starts to buckle under its own weight, resulting in a product that feels a little more touch and go than the original.""
“Sequels are a risky proposition. Games with the prefix Xeno in their titles may have had their issues before Xenosaga II, but the damage done by that title was, by all accounts, insane. Such lessons observed, fans of Syphon Filter can rest assured that the continued adventures of Gabe Logan and crew steers clear of such trouble, but the series has become the victim of its own success – at least somewhat.
