Magikappa kidnapped one of the brothers, but the second - Mario - fell down on Yoshi's island, where small cute Yoshi-dinosaurs were living. The Yoshis decided to carry baby Mario and to bring him to his parents. But Magikappa has sent troops and hordes of monsters to stop the Yoshis and to kidnap Mario!
In the game, you control only the differently colored Yoshis, while Mario himself is just a helpless baby. If you lose control of him, a countdown will start, and you have to catch the baby before Magikappa's servants kidnap it. The gameplay involves usual jump-&-run activities, and tons of new features: turn your enemies into eggs and then throw those eggs to defeat tougher enemies or to create paths, solve puzzles to access secret levels, break the ground to find useful items, etc. ... " Mario murdered Donkey Kong.
This explains why he never returned in any story-based Mario game to take revenge on Mario. All of his own games take place before he kidnapped Roxanne. His appearances in party, sport or SSB games are the elaborate illusion of a Boo trying to throw Mario offguard.

Super Mario World introduced Yoshi and shortly afterward, the world fell in love with Mario's equestrian-like dinosaur sidekick. So, it was only natural that he'd star in a platformer of his own eventually...And five years after his debut, his game hit store shelves. Yoshi's Island has an amazing art direction with beautiful, unique-looking graphics, making it look like you're playing in a living, breath"

"Yeah, it's hard as all hell. No, it's probably not the best in the series (though it's still great). But it's just so creative, and different, and nice to look at. There is nothing else like it and I personally love the hell out of it."

"I really didn't want to like this game, i fought myself from getting it for years because it was different and cute/innocent looking...mario was a screaming baby. However, the game is fun, very fun in fact. I found out I like shooting eggs at objects making them crumble. The game play and graphics are great the game is awesome and I was wrong. However, I still think the whole baby mario thing is lame but thats just me."
