I always wanted to be Ryo... to wear the jacket with the embroidered tiger on the back, to talk like a robot, to beat-up the bullies, and to be heartless to the cute jap girl.
First game i remember to have QTE, Quick time button action things. This game was so much fun i still cant believe they never finished off the story with shenmue 3 (they quit making them after 2)
You could do so so soooo much in this game. Goto a corner store and purchase candy, chips, junk food, Bubbles with toys inside...(collectibles) Hell you could even win genesis games and play ... read more

SuShenmue (シェンムー, Shenmū?) is a 1999 adventure video game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega for the Dreamcast, produced and directed by Yu Suzuki. Suzuki coined a genre title, "FREE" (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment), for the game, based on the interactivity and freedom he wanted to give to the player. Suzuki intended to achieve this by simulating aspects of real life through the game, such as the day/night/sleep system, real time variable weather effects (unheard of in a game of this kind at the time) and various other interactive elements such as vending machines, arcades, and convenience stores. Shenmue borrows gameplay from many different genres but largely consists of open-world adventure segments with real-time 3D battles interspersed throughout. Shenmue was followed by a sequel, Shenmue II, with at least one more planned as a Dreamcast series. However, production on the series ended with the second game, leaving the story at an unresolved cliffhanger.... (more)(less)

"8th Place: Ryo Hazuki
Ryo is not the smartest man in the world. In fact, he does many things to justify him being considered a little slow (trying to chase a dangerous man without calling the police...). Anyway, if you get over his intelligence you'll find him to be a handsome man.

"$70 million
A game which held the record as most expensive game for nearly 10 years, Shenmue’s budget was unheard of at the time of its development — a $70 million budget for a SEGA Dreamcast game. Shenmue offered a vast and explorable area, a complete weather system, and so many fine details and features that games even today don’t have. However, many failed to notice everything the game had to offer, and the game ultimately disappointed in sales. "
