""Easily nestled among the who's who among early beat'em ups, River City Ransom sticks out for a variety or reasons, but the one that always comes to the surface to me is the incorporation of the game's light role-playing elements. The perplexing side of the equation is how the game has managed to maintain a stout value on the second hand market over the years."
"Even though this wasn't available on NES where I live, I only got to play it through emulator. It's a really good game, and I was surprised when I noticed that the characters look excatly the same as in Nintendo World Cup. Later found out that this is one game of "Kunio-kun" series, that mostly has sports games. RCR is great when played with co-op."
"I also started playing RCR only because my parents rented it. It didn't have the recognizable cartoon characters on it, so I didn't care about it at first. When my brother and I finally got around to playing it, we were hooked. Throwing enemies in ditches and hitting each other with trashcans... it had everything we were looking for. "

"Day 24 - Favorite Classic Game: River City Ransom
A classic beat-'em-up. Dispensing justice by walking to the right and beating the snot out of anyone who gets in your way. Both single player and cooperative play are an absolute blast."

"Classic Release - 1990
Featured in "Top 20 Games Nobody Played" article.
You could say that River City Ransom was a precusor to Guardian Heroes. It was the original beatemup on the NES that had entertaining RPG elements. It’s simple controls and deep gameplay have taken it from it’s originally obscure status to a bit of a cult favorite."
