The lowdown: Finally shedding any pretence of being a platformer this new game has more in common with Unreal Tournament 2004 than it does Super Mario. Ratchet (Clank really isn’t in it much) has been press ganged into an ultra violent game show where he has to destroy everything in his path in order to pull in the ratings. To help him, he’s got a huge range of customisable weapons and a small pool of vehicles. The single player is perfectly fun on its own but the real draw is the co-operative mode and the online multiplayer with its myriad of different modes and options. Most exciting moment: Sitting atop a spider tank and commanding your army of bots to annihilate your best friend online. Since you ask: This is actually the fourth Ratchet & Clank game from developer Insomniac Games, who also did the three Spyro the Dragon games for the PSone. . The bottom line: Not a “proper†Ratchet & Clank but still a great multiplayer game. Harrison Dent |
