If Sony had software or hardware backwards compatibility for PS2 games on all models, instead of the few earlier fat models, the console would have a 10/10.
You can play online for free, unlike with the Xbox 360.

The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.
A major feature that distinguishes the PlayStation 3 from its predecessors is its unified online gaming service, the PlayStation Network, which contrasts with Sony's former policy of relying on game developers for online play. Other major features of the console include its robust multimedia capabilities, connectivity with the PlayStation Portable, and its use of a high-definition optical disc format, Blu-ray Disc, as its primary storage medium. The PS3 was also the first Blu-ray 2.0-compliant Blu-ray player on the market.
The PlayStation 3 was first released on November 11, 2006 in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America, and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania. Two SKUs were available at launch: a basic model with a 20 GB hard drive, and a premium model with a 60 GB hard drive and several additional features. Since then, several revisions have been made to the console's available models.... (more)(less)

"Easily my favourite console of the 7th generation and the best multimedia console I ever have. This is the last console I got after the Wii and Xbox 360 and I enjoyed this console more than those two combined. I have not played one bad exclusive game on this console, most of them are just great and its third party support is on par with the Xbox 360's in terms of number and quality, even though it caught up half way since it had a not so impressive launch. While the online support isn't as good "

"Own from 2008 - current
First Game: Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Patriots
The last console that I got for now. I pretty much use it as my personal blu-ray player at the moment. "

"While I haven't appreciated the Bluray technology on my 200lbs CRT TV, I have had a great time playing through Fallout 3, GTA IV, Infamous, Uncharted, Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare, BioShock and more, and the UI is pleasing. Not many PS exclusives that I was interested in, but that's alright."
"11 - The Best Console
I'm not a hater on the other systems, but I really do love the Playstation 3. I do argue about specs and all that and compare the raw computing power and I say the Ps3 comes out on top, but the other systems are alright and have their place to. Still, the Ps3 with it's music and video capabilities, downloadable games, Blu-ray player, backwards compatibility (60Gb model FTW), internet browser (that could use a little work but it's there), six-axis control, friends and nat"
