Without a doubt, the inferior fighting game franchise to come out of the 90's. For me, this would never compete with the mighty Street Fighter. There were never enough characters, never enough moves, the fighting was bugged (you could just sweep an opponent to death) and it felt far too choppy (even for the technological constraints at the time). They tried to make a game that was far too serious ... read more
The good thing about this game, is its graphics(compared to other games in its time). Characters look better than those from Street Fighter. Special mocves are great, and the ending specials are truly amazing.
Ok, first, THERE ARENT ENOUGH CHARACTERS. Okay, why couldnt they have put Reptile or something in this game(without... read more

The classic fighting game placed players against one another or the CPU in arena settings ripe for medieval death fantasy. Brutality was the order of the day, and some found this disturbing. In fact, many did. GameSpot's executive editor Greg Kasavin said Mortal Kombat was the first time many people got to see "lifelike, realistic violence in a video game...whether they liked it or not." He continued, "While MK fans will tell you that it's the gameplay that kept them coming back to this classic fighting game, many (overly) concerned adults jumped to the conclusion that the game's extensive amount of blood and gore was 'obviously' what enticed all those impressionable children and teenagers to keep playing it. These concerned people were half right; MK's sheer audacity was hard to ignore, even in the midst of a crowded, exciting arcade setting."
The Genesis/Mega Drive version was censored, but entering a secret code restored the full gore and fatalities from the arcade version. This version was given an MA-13 rating by the Videogame Rating Council.... (more)(less)

Mortal Kombat is a classic example of a game that was good when it was released, but has aged horribly. With that said, I wasn't a fan of the original Mortal Kombat, even as a youngster. I eventually grew to appreciate the game for what it is, a so-so fighter that doesn't really do enough good to make it a really great game. But, this is the game that laid the groundwork. The sequel, wh"
"How can anyone call this a good game? How can anyone take a fighting game where every character has the exact same moveset seriously? I feel this way about the entire series barring the newest iteration, which is pretty good. It only took them 16 years..."
"With the success and popularity of the Street Fighter franchise back in the early years of gaming, it’s no surprise that many other companies wanted to jump in and try their luck in the fighting genre. But being that it was a fairly standard formula, they’d have to do something unique in order to stand out and separate themselves from the rest of the pack if they wanted to be successful.
Enter Mortal Kombat, a game that became popular based on one thing: shock value.
Mortal Kombat was a pr"

Goro
Not all bosses are on this list because I liked to face them. Goro is a boss that I HATED facing. So why is he on the list then, you ask? Because of the feeling you get when you finally beat him. Goro was a boss that made you feel like you actually accomplished something when you finally knocked him out. That feeling makes me consider Goro as one of my favorites."
