The best Mega Man game made, in my opinion. Why they decided to make a gazillion crappy versions after this one is beyond me, though these days it seems like the developers are starting to respond to the cry of the fan boys, with releases like Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 2.5.
How has it stood against the test of time against the newer reiterations of the game? Great platforming game wit... read more
Mega Man 2 is considered, by and large, to still be the best game in the series, with Mega Man 3 filling a very close second. If you have never played a Mega Man game, you cannot go wrong with the second installment. So much of what the series became was perfected here. Future installments enhanced the formula, but at the expense of the refinement that comes with ... read more
Like most fans, I love Mega Man 2. No ifs, ands or butts about it, Mega Man 2 single-handedly spearheaded my interest in the blue bomber and video games in general. That’s a tall order for any game to fill, yet as simple of a joy as the game is even today, there's something my ever-evolving self has to ask, has Mega Man 2 been hurt by the never-ending hype?

The player controls Mega Man, a boy robot who fights for peace, as he travels to defeat the Robot Masters of Dr. Wily. Mega Man gains the signature weapon of each Robot Master after defeating him. The Robot Masters have weaknesses to the weapons of certain other Robot Masters; therefore, choosing the order in which the levels are played is a vital component of the gameplay.
While matching the Robot Masters' weaknesses to one another is an important component of Mega Man 2's gameplay, an additional component is the superiority of many of those weapons to Mega Man's standard weapon. The Quick Boomerang, for example, is able to kill some enemies that no other weapon can. And the Metal Blades are capable of attacking in all eight directions, and are much wider than Mega Man's regular weapon, making it much easier to deal with flying enemies. Either weapon, though particularly the blades, can make formerly difficult sections of the game much easier.... (more)(less)

"The original series takes place after an apocalypse where only Dr. Light and Dr. Wily survived
The big nuclear war happened, and everyone in America/Japan died except two elderly roboticists. Knowing their side lost the war, they're playing games in the rubble. Wily is trying to rebuild the nation as it was through cheap mass-produced robots, and Light is trying to build an android nearly as close to a human as possible. They're each trying to prove their plan is the superior one by having thei"

Mega Man 2 is often considered to be the best game in the Mega Man series. It's hard to argue that. The levels are all designed brilliantly, the bosses are all unique and fun to battle against, and the soundtrack may be the best in the series. It really is the total package in terms of Mega Man games. Later games in the series added new abilities and features, but even in its basic form, Mega Man 2 is sti"

"First NES game I liked, and the best Mega Man game in my opinion, it has kick ass music, perhaps it's the first game I can remember because I like the fact that you can play the levels in any order."
"First good NES game I ever tried when the local department store got the NES cabinet with about 20 games. This was also the first game I bought when I got my own NES."

"Mega Man 2 is a game I somewhat hate to talk about because what hasn’t already been said about it? It’s a great title that happened to spearhead my introduction into console gaming yet at the same time it’s been fawned over by so many for so long that you can’t help but feel it’s overrated. It’s true that the classics are always in style but I wish some people would try to keep things in perspective.""

I ask this question because over the years I've seen other gamers continuously put other landmark titles I grew up with on unrealistically high pedestals. Final Fantasy VII may have been great adventure, but does a sealed black-boarder copy of the game really warrant four hundred dollars? Xenogears may have had a psychotically layered narrative that essentially turned it a playable anime, but was the game really perfect? Met” read more
"My favorite Mega Man game of all time! That is actually saying something because I think their are 20+ Mega Man games out there (just estimating). I have played 1-10(last two on WiiWare) and x-x7. I have both collections and I still enjoy going through the 2nd one more than any others. I like my megaman basic for the most part with some good music playing. That sums this game up to a T, basic controls, AWESOME music, and the bosses were very fun/creative. "
