Mass Effect is in many ways the perfect action RPG. It's a roleplaying game in the sense that you delve into your own character, build him or her as you wish, and act as you would in your character. "Garrus VakarianGarrus accompanied me on my whole journey, right from the start. Always open for new perspectives, loyal to Shepard and his team however much the future promised to be doomed, an excellent sniper with a friendly voice (the German voice is relatively similar to the original) and always remaining very "correct" and polite.
Let me quote Deviant Artist Meken who expressed the reason for his appeal perfectly:

"Okay so it's a good game, I really enjoy it, and I'm gonna keep playing it. I'm probably gonna play all the way to 3 to see what the big deal is about the ending. But there are some huge issues I hope are changed in the 2nd game:

Sixth or seventh time I've played this through. This is just pure gold. Or maybe more like heroin, because you get hooked so easily. I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said countless times. Epic story and blah blah blah.

"Read my comment/review, most of it still holds. The inventory system is horrible, but otherwise this is such a well-rounded experience where everything just seems to click in to place."

"A mature space-opera with intricate plotting and characters that feel alive, the decisions you make actually matter for more than just simple good and evil play styles. This game hooked me with its slick look and fun combat system. Can't wait to crack open the sequels!"
"Saddest game scene: Wrex and the Genophage
I was caught entirely off-guard by the heated argument Wrex had with me--I thought it would be entirely possible to reason with him and come to a mutual agreement. Things seemed to be going fine... until Ashley pumps him full of lead, citing her need to keep me safe. Unacceptable. I reloaded--no success. No amount of reloads could keep Wrex alive. I had to accept that.
When the mission was over, I left Ashley to cook in the explosion.
