Before Half-Life, most first person shooters of the time were just run and gun and find the way out of the maze of the level. Half-Life threw that concept out and set a new level for future FPS's to meet.
Set in the Black Mesa underground research facility in the New Mexico desert the player takes the role of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a MIT graduate in theoretical physics, who is helping... read more
I never played Half-Lif in the time that it was released... and after hearing my friend telling for 2 or 3 years saying I shlould play this, I decided to give a shot. Oh boy.
I'm not a huge fan of shooter games, but this FPS was diferente from everything that I've played before. It was creep, but in the same time, was fun to shoot the scientist just to hear they screaming. Think in ... read more

With an equal balance of action and storyline, you play a Dr Gordon Freeman, a professor starting a new job at a black ops research facility. However, soon after you arrive, things go horribly wrong with some of the experiments. Left to your own devices in a locked down facility, you basically have to get out alive. The game is based across one seamless level--the facility. Half Life broke the rules of the level-to-level games before it. Here you get immersed into the Half Life world. Yet it isn't just the maps that are different from what you have come to expect from this genre. The weapons aren't just strewn around as they are in Quake 3. Half Life prefers to hide them on people, lockers and testing rooms making the overall environment more realistic. But where Half Life excels is the multiplayer options. As a standalone package this game will keep you busy for a long time, but Half Life has a very big following, so in addition to the official add-on packs such as Opposing Force, the game has spawned a number of un-official, but hugely successful add-on packs such as Counterstrike and Team Fortress. This game has managed to create a special place in many a gamer's heart. Whether you are new to the genre or just looking for a new challenge, this game is well worth a look at. What's so great is that it's accessible to everyone. If you're new to the genre, stick with the single player missions. But if you're looking for that new challenge, get this and then download Counterstrike straight away.... (more)(less)

"Eihän siitä pääse mihinkään, että tämä on todennäköisesti pelihistorian paras peli. Juuri sopivassa määrin tarinaa, seikkailua, räiskimistä ja pulmanratkontaa. Vaikeusaste on erittäin sopiva ja kestoakin löytyy, meni noin 10 tuntia pelata läpi mikä on fps peliltä varsin kunnioitettava suoritus."
"
This game made PCs like anti-cats. Cats have nine lives. PCs have Half-Life. I worked on that joke for like six and a half weeks and it was so worth it. If you didn't like it, you need to get a life....a Half-Life. Oh, that one was on the fly and it was just as good! I'm just gonna stop there. Too much grade-A humor in one block of text is bad for the health."

When Half-Life first came out, it blew away any other first-person shooter that had come before it. It combined fun first-person shooter action with some clever puzzles for some fantastic gameplay...And on top of that, the atmosphere was incredible. The graphics were amazing for their time, the story was interesting, yet still pretty simple...It's just a fantastic overall ex"

A first-person shooter that is nothing but a shooter usually bores me. In Half-Life, between the fire-fights, you've got puzzles to solve, which made all the difference in terms of me getting bored during the game. Half-Life (and its sequel) is one of a handful of first-person shooters that I enjoy. The only real issue that I came across through my time playing is that I got stuck in the environments probably five or six times during the 9-10 hour playthrough, which usual"
