Who needs reality?

Animal Crossing is not your average everyday video game. In Animal Crossing you play as yourself in a digital town that is populated by humanoid animals. There's no real end, and there is no story. There's just you, and errands to run, fish and bugs to catch, fossils to find, and letters to write. I'm not sure quite what it is, but I know I like it. If you start to play, chances are you'll ha... read more

Description: Animal Crossing, dubbed a "communication game" by Nintendo, is an updated version of Animal Forest + on the Nintendo 64. In Animal Crossing, you arrive at a new town (named by you). You play as one character (who you also name) throughout the game. For an example, I named my character James, after me, and the town Toronto ... (more)

Favorite Games - A Year by Year Review (120 games items)

"I never, ever, ever thought I'd enjoy a game that has essentially no way to beat it. Sure, you can play this for hours, days, weeks, months, and complete numerous "tasks" over the course of your game. But there ultimately is no goal but those you make yourself in the game, and no way to beat it. And yet......there is something to this game that makes it quite addictive. My only complaint is that it needs to add something to the character, something more interactive for him to do that building so"

"Tom Nook I’m already in debt due to student loans. When I play a game, the last thing I want to do is find myself in debt in-game. Tom Nook, the Sallie Mae of video game characters, makes sure that within minutes of popping in Animal Crossing, you’ll be in debt to him until the day you die. He’s a sneaky jerk, too. Almost done paying off your debt to him? Well, he can’t have that...So he trespasses into your house and redecorates it, causing you to plunge further into debt whether you"

Christmas Past... (107 games items)

"The reason we got a Gamecube. We spent hours and hours playing this game decorating our houses and paying off our loans and catching bugs and fish as well as digging up fossils. The DS game and Wii seem to be pretty much like this one except for a few additions but they are all entertaining."

The Top 100 Videogame Villains (100 games items)

"#72 - Tom Nook(???) The Animal Crossing series might be considered one of the most innocent and family-friendly franchises out there, but even in the land of ultra-cute anthropomorphic critters there must be someone at the top of the food chain. Tom Nook might look innocent enough, and when you first arrive into town, he might even seem nice, but beneath that furry façade lies the cold, dead heart of a megalomaniac whose sole desire is to make a quick bell. Sure, he gives you a place to live, "

"TOM NOOK First appearance… Animal Crossing (2001) At first glance, ol’ Nook is an adorable raccoon merchant on par with most of Nintendo’s cuddly creations. Delve any deeper and you’ll be subjected to his limitless greed that forever binds you (and the other furry citizens of Town X) to his cause. Right from the start, Nook dangles financial stability like a delicious carrot in front of you, forcing you into servitude and what seems like never ending debt. Oh, you can pay him back, but"

"Animal Crossing happens in real-time. That is, time continues to pass in the world even when you're not playing, so playing at different times of the day will open up new things to do. There are several special events that only happen on certain days throughout the year. This game demands a long-term commitment, but given the amount of fun you'll end up having, you won't mind. And don't forget that by swapping memory cards with your friends you can visit their towns, as well. There's always some"

If the Sims seems a little too hardcore for you, I highly recommend Animal Crossing. But then, I highly recommend Animal Crossing to anyone. Once it gets its hooks into you, you'll never go another day without playing it.” read more
