"Lang is definitely not one of the greatest directors ever, but he knew how to impress. While directors such as Murnau went and perfected the art of telling stories through cinema, Lang chose a different route and made film the media of epics. His epic pictures are best surmised in his masterpiece Metropolis simply in terms of scale and production. His use of models, painted backgrounds and enormous numbers of extras in Metropolis was later repeated, to a slightly smaller scale, in Frau Im Mond. "
