80's fantasy fluff

i loved willow as a kid. i would have been about 14 when it came out and i honestly enjoyed it. i played the willow game for nintindo over and over again (it was sort've like early zelda but better). i had seen parts of the movie again but never sat through the whole thing until now. after all these years its still enjoyable...if, of course, a bit dated. the story, apparently written by lucas, begins as a baby noah story and quickly turns to blatant lord of the rings rip off. lucas of course has none of the skills that tolkien mastered in storytelling and 'world building'. lucas instead gives us the hollywood version of that. nothing bad but it does then reek of the time it was created...in this case the 80's. its not unlike his ewok stories either...which will turn some peo...Read more

by Dane Youssef This one wasn't much when it first came out. The budget was extravagant and the box-office returns just barely covered the big fat price tag. And as measly as a movie as this was for it's day on it's own merits, it's dwarfed even further by the immortal "Lord Of The Rings" saga. "Willow" is the film the impish Warwick Davis is renown for his participation in the never-ending Horror-movie stories, the "Leprechaun" movies. This was his first lead role and he brings a likeable and earnest charisma to the role instead of just trying to be little and cute like so many child performers and other midget actors. The worst part of this movie is that every time you see Elora Danon [the baby], she is crying the most annoying screeching noises.

Also, I feel sorry for Willow. I mean, he had to see Fin Raziel naked. How very Harold and Maude.
