The Beginning

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning follows the recent horror trend of gore torture down a path that is moving away from frightful scares to stomach curdling nausea. In the scheme of the horror Chainsaw series, this is a good follow-up to the remake but may have followed it a bit too closely. It almost feels like an exact replica with a different group of unsuspecting teens. Although we learn a bit about R. Lee Ermey's twisted character and of course the hellspawn that is Leatherface, the overall emphasis seemed to rely on the premise that the new scare is more gore. It is definitely worth a watch, even if it is just to hear what twisted ad-libs R. Lee Ermey can come up with to top the original remake.
