About: Charles Bukowski is one of America's best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in Andernach, Germany, and raised in Los Angeles, where he lived for fifty years. He published his first story in 1944, when he was twenty-four, and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp (1994).

My Favourite Atheists (39 person items)

" “For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so"

Hi I'm a Famous Alcoholic (37 person items)

"Most of the Los Angeles-based poet's oeuvre is in some way influenced by his muses of alcohol, gambling, and philandering. Throughout his life, the author of Post Office and Factotum remained on the margin of the literary establishment and unrepentantly admitted that he only worked at jobs long enough to allow him to gamble and get drunk. During World War II, Bukowski travelled America, living on skid row and working short stints at odd jobs to support his vices: postal worker, gas station atten"

People Quotes - Part 2 (50 person items)

""The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence." “Things get bad for all of us, almost continually, and what we do under the constant stress reveals who/what we are.” “If something burns your soul with purpose and desire, it’s your duty to be reduced to ashes by it. Any other form of existence will be yet another dull book in the library of life.” “Having a bunch of cats around is good. If you’re feelin"

My top 25 of international authors. (25 person items)

"I just love this guy, seriously. You know, i`m 13 years old now, wasn`t for i seeing his books now. But when i saw his book, "Hot Chesee" (that`s the english translation from portuguese). I just love this guy, just when i read the word "fuck" in his book. I never saw this word in a book before, as the same that i never see "masturbation" or "bitch" or "motherfucker". His sincerity and reality with the facts of everyday life for a teenager. I like him, i like the story that he wrote in his book ""

Escritores bêbados! (11 person items)

"Beber é algo emocional. Faz com que você saia da rotina do dia-a-dia, impede que tudo seja igual. Arranca você pra fora do seu corpo e de sua mente e joga contra a parede. Eu tenho a impressão de que beber é uma forma de suicídio onde você é permitido voltar à vida e começar tudo de novo no dia seguinte. É como se matar e renascer. Acho que eu já vivi cerca de dez ou quinze mil vidas. "
