Tally lives in a world where, when people turn sixteen, they undergo an operation to make them pretty. Between the point when they are young children and their sixteenth birthdays, these people are considered “uglies” - and uglies are secluded from the rest of society. A few weeks before her sixteenth birthday, Tally meets another another ugly. Shay and Tally strike up a fast friendship, and a week before they are to turn pretty, Shay lets Tally in on a little secret - there is a secret group of people who never turn pretty. This is a great Young Adult book. I finished the whole book in a matter of hours because I liked it alot. I read this right around the time it came out, so my tastes may have changed a bit in that period of time, but when I read it I remember being really hooked.
