Seriously how the hell can Kafka expect people to think this as a masterpiece, oh dear.............., I mean. People DO class it as a masterpiece..WHY!? It's anything but. This book is just WRONG. It's not even close to being adequate.

I prefer ''The Trial'' than this tripe though.

With this startling, bizarre, yet surprisingly funny first openning, Kafka begins his masterpiece, The Metamorphosis.
It is the story of a young man who, transformed overnight into a giant beetle-like insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, a quintessentially alienated man. A harrowing -- though absurdly comic -- meditation on human feelings of ina... read more

"The Metamorphosis is a masterpiece, pure and simple. Kafka provides his insight into alienation with his objective prose which probes deep into the fears of the reader. Kafka is an indisputable literary master. Read in November 2011."

“With this startling, bizarre, yet surprisingly funny first openning, Kafka begins his masterpiece, The Metamorphosis.

It is the story of a young man who, transformed overnight into a giant beetle-like insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, a quintessentially alienated man. A harrowing -- though absurdly comic -- meditation on human feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and isolation, The Metamorphosis has taken its place as one of the most widely read and influential works of twentieth-century fiction.

Art of Manliness - 100 Must-Read Books (101 books items)

"As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a monstrous vermin. None of us want this to happen. Well, most of us don’t. Kafka employed terms from law and politics, and was always concerned about some vague, oppressive bureaucracy that sought his ruin, though seeming cool and detached. We can take something from the very approach of Kafka to his work and find a balance between reading too much meaning into an event and, on the contrary, car"
