I love Kurt Vonnegut. He was a hilarious little man with the blackest of black humor. He was also a science fictionist in a traditional sense – he used the basis of science fiction to explore more humanistic ideas and express his points. And his greatest work, arguably of course, is Slaughterhouse-Five. I won’t divulge where the novel gets the title, but I will tell this much: Slaughterhouse-Five is a novel-within-a-novel. The first few chapters are dedicated to following a faux-author who survived WWII and has become anti-war. He wants to write a novel about his experience as a POW, and in the war in general, and use it to express his anti-war sentiments.
