I primi tre libri, in fondo, possono essere considerati una sorta di breviario che introduce e spiega miti utilizzati poi per altre opere (come "La ricerca onirica dello sconosciuto Kadath" o "Il richiamo di Cthulhu"), e quindi tutto sommato sono anche utili.
