Four children evacuated from London during World War 2 live with an elderly professor in an old house where they discover a wardrobe that leads to another world. Narnia is under the clutches of an evil queen and only the children can fulfil the long held prophecy and save it.

This books (with it's obvious parallels to the story of Jesus and the crucifixion) may be magical as a kid but is merely patronising as an adult.
