Like many movies, the Jurassic Park film by Steven Spielberg has many differences from it's literary source. The book itself, as always, is far more detailed. And honestly, it's as if the film and book are two very different stories. Yes, both revolve around a dinosaur theme park, and yes, many character names are kept. But that's where most of the similarities end.

Unless your species evolved sometime after 1993 when Jurassic Park hit theaters, you're no doubt familiar with this dinosaur-bites-man disaster tale set on an island theme park gone terribly wrong. But if Speilberg's amped-up CGI creation left you longing for more scientific background and ... well, character development, check out the original Michael Crichton novel. Although not his best book (get ahold of sci-fi classic The Andromeda Strain for that), Jurassic Park fills out the film version's kinetic story line with additional scenes, dialogue, and explanations while still maintaining Crichton's trademark thrills-'n'-chills pacing. As ever, the book really is better than the movie. --Paul Hughes

The book by Michael Crichton is fantastic if you're interested in science. You don't have to be a genius to understand the concepts in the novel, but it helps broaden your understanding of the many steps involved in making the park. It stills centers around Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler, who are not anything more than coworkers, and still receive the opportunity of a life time to visit a one of a kind resort. They are br” read more
