Frank Miller's Sin City is visually quite astonishing. A brutal adult noir set in the fictional Basin City, Miller's black and white artwork realises the atmosphere of some weird Depression-era-style future superbly well. Our principal character, Marv, is a giant, as large as he is ugly, who has found some peace, some kindness, some shelter in the arms of a prostitute called Goldie. Goldie, running from someone, scared as hell, needs protection as much as Marv needs a little human kindness. Hauling himself out of the depths of a huge hangover Marv wakes to find Goldie murdered. And revenge is one of the things Marv does best. While the artwork is undeniably fine the story is rather thin in places, and the sound effects come a little too thick and fast. Although not a great comic it is a very good one and, as the first part of the classic Sin City series, the beginning chapter in what has become an essential addition to the adult graphic novel collector's list. --Mark Thwaite

Product Description
Legendary artist Frank Miller opened a noir opus in Sin City. This critically-acclaimed triumph-honored by both an Eisner Award and the prestigious National Cartoonists' Award-combines the pulp intensity of writers like Spillane and Cain with the gritty graphic storytelling that only Miller can deliver. Sin City is the place-tough as leather and dry as tinder. Love is the fuel, and the now-infamous character Marv has the match ... not to mention a "condition." He's gunning after Goldie's killer, so it's time to watch this town burn! Frank Miller is one of modern comic's first talents to publish a comic book that he created, crafted, and owned. That book is Sin City, which grew from the wellspring of Miller's passionate desire to create a comic book with two distinct qualities - it wouldn't be a superhero comic, and it had to be a crime comic. Enter Marv and Goldie. And a psychotic killer. And a crime-drenched town. And a corrupted diocese. Sin City is a town like no other, but most places resemble it in one way or another. In real life, thugs live everywhere and women sell their bodies all the time, but if everyday life is a storm, Sin City exists in the eye of a hurricane.

"Was raiding my brothers DVD collection one day I found his Sin City was in a box too big to contain just the DVD and so I went snooping and found in there was the three stories that are shown in the film, The Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill and That Yellow Bastard. I need to read them asap since he will be back from uni soon and probably wouldn't let me borrow them!

I started with my favourite characters story, Marv. After reading this, I have to say the film "
"That Yellow Bastardin jälkeen paras Sin City. Marv osaa ronskissa ulkomuodossaan olemaan humoristinen ja todellinen kovanaama. Mukavan paksu oli tämä kirja verrattuna muihin ja juoni juuri kuvastaakin sarjan nimeä mitä parhaiten. Kevin on koko sarjan paras ja julmin vihollinen kannibalistisine tapoineen."

"What is it about?: It takes place in Basin City, almost universally referred to by the nickname Sin City, a fictional town in the American west. It tells the story of different characters, all caught up in violent corruption.
Note: Probably with Akira, the most famous entry on this list. I have read all of the them but the first 3 volumes are the best. It has been adapted to the silver screen with great success and it is usually considered the most faitful comic-book adaptation ever.

"Mä en edes odottanut tän olevan näin kova, ai saatana. Paljon siistiä noirahtavaa fiilistä ja upeaa piirrosjälkeä oikeesti helvetin koukuttavassa paketissa. Luin tän tosiaan alkuperäiskielellä ja oon aika varma et tää toimii silleen suomennoksia paremmin, mut eihän tota tiedä."
