"Griet is a teenage girl who must leave her home to work as a maid at the house of the famous Dutch painter Jan Vermeer where she must contend with Vermeer's jealous wife, his controlling mother, and bratty children; eventually Griet ends up assisting Vermeer in his painting and they start to develop feelings for each other-which inflames his wife's jealousy even more-and becomes the model for Vermeer's painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring"."

"I really love this book: read it more than once already. It is easy to read and yet very deep and well written. You fall in love with the awesome characters, the setting, the history and you probably end up believing that this story is real and not fictional, at least you never look at the painting without thinking about Griet (the main character) :) I recommend it to anyone, but especially Art and History lovers."
