A morality tale that has become synonymous with Christmas, a rich but lonely and miserable old man changes his ways after being shown his past life and possible future by the Christmas ghosts. It's all about the spirit of christmas.
Good story but it's been told better since (by the Muppets!).
Classico libro natalizio, da camino, da leggere con tutta l'atmosfera che si sprigiona dalle sue pagine. Probabilmente un po' troppo buonista, pur negli insegnamenti efficaci che elargisce... ma... non è forse poi questo, il Natale? ;)

In the history of English literature, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, which has been continuously in print since it was first published in the winter of 1843, stands out as the quintessential Christmas story. What makes this charming edition of Dickens's immortal tale so special is the collection of 80 vivid illustrations by Everett Shinn (1876-1953). Shinn, a well-known artist in his time, was a popular illustrator of newspapers and magazines whose work displayed a remarkable affinity for the stories of Charles Dickens, evoking the bustling street life of the mid-1800s. Printed on heavy, cream-colored paper stock, the edges of the pages have been left rough, simulating the way in which the story might have appeared in Dickens's own time. Though countless editions of this classic have been published over the years, this one stands out as particularly beautiful, nostalgic, and evocative of the spirit of Christmas.
""'But why do spirits walk the earth, and why do they come to me?'
"'It is required of every man,' the Ghost returned, 'that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellowmen, and travel far and wide; and if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. It is doomed to wander through the world--oh, woe is me!--and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness!'"

"A Christmas Carol is such a great classic. Very little differs from the book in most of the versions I've seen. There's the old version everyone's seen, the Muppets, heck even Jim Carrey pulled off Old Scrooge. All are great renditions and the book is actually quite a short read. It's a great classic and can be a great tradition to read as a family around Christmas time."

"I keep on forgetting to read it, but I've wanted to for a long time. Though I think we all know this story pretty well that there really isn't any use to reading it... "
