Criminals have always called the shots in Sin City, whether bootleggers, gamblers, or politicians. "Ensikosketukseni Sin Cityn alkuperäissarjakuviin. Loistavan elokuvaversion olin nähnyt ennen näitä, mutta tarinan entuudestaan tunteminen ei lukukokemusta pilannut. Piirrosjälki on todella hienoa ja elokuvassa vaalinut synkkyys leijuu myös tämänkin ympärillä. Kaikista kolmesta episodista, jotka oltiin elokuvaan laitettu, oli tämä niistä heikoin, mutta silti viiden tähden arvoinen. Ei myöskään kirjoista paras, mutta kuitenkin lupaava aloitus sarjalle."

"Aika samanlaista matskua kuin edellinen osa, mutta se ei vähennä kirjan viihdyttävyyttä yhtään. Harmillisesti lievänä tunnelmanrikkojana etukannessa oli värit, mutta muuten Kohtalokas tappo on tuttua Sin Cityä, jossa on hyvä juoni ja kelpo piirrosjälki, tosin edelleenkään asioiden rajoja ei erota selvästi Frank Millerin mustavalkoisesta maailmasta. Siitäkin seikasta huolimatta tämä on sarjakuvaa parhaimmillaan."
