About: Beirut is an American band which was originally the solo musical project of Santa Fe, New Mexico native Zachary Francis Condon, and later expanded into a band. Their first performances were in New York in May 2006, to support the release of their debut album, Gulag Orkestar. The music combines elements of Eastern European and Balkan folk with Western pop music, fusing the American mainstream and indie-rock culture and the World Music market.

Song: Elephant Gun
"If I was young, I'd flee this town
I'd bury my dreams underground
As did I, we drink to die, we drink tonight
Far from home, elephant gun
Let's take them down one by one
We'll lay it down, it's not been found, it's not around."
Song: A Sunday Smile
"We burned to the ground, left a view to admire
With buildings inside, church of white
We burned to the ground, left a grave to admire
And as we reach for the sky, reach the church of white
A Sunday smile, you w"

Brilliant Names (45 person items)
Named as the lebanese city, sounds like an european band, but came from the States. Can it be more global and, yet, unique?
Parnasianismo Indie (8 person items)
"As did I, we drink to die, we drink tonight Os indies gostavam desta banda em segredo, era só mais uma das inúmeras bandinhas underground aleatórias tentando a sorte. Mas aí a música deles foi parar em minisérie da Globo e caiu no gosto do povão. Eles ficaram ricos, milionários, lindos e joiados, pegando um monte de mulé. Como indie parnasianista não pega ninguém, logo concluiu que eles estavam traindo o movimento. Agora não são mais indies. Que sirva de lição. HUMPFT!"

"Nominated by Grand Assault
Probably my favourite music artist. Well, at least over the last three years or so. An incredibly talented young musician whose music brings all the fun of a Balkan carnival. He gets my respect for making brass instruments cool again. Beirut's songs are feel-good masterpieces packed with sprinklings of European romance.

""Well it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile
And I'll gamble away my fright
And I'll gamble away my time
And in a year, a year or so
This will slip into the sea""
