Amber Rose was born to Jon Testa, a Bajan man of Italian descent, and Shauna Soares, of Cape Verdan descent, on October 21, 1983.[1] She is the couple's youngest child. Her parents divorced when she was three years old; she was raised by her maternal aunt, Mary Lakes. Rose originally wanted to own a restaurant because she enjoyed food, but instead turned to a modelling career.
Amber Rose has been featured in numerous magazines, including Smooth, Gotham, Vibe, Planting Seeds, In Tandem, Elle,[3] and Complex,[4] and has also been interviewed on Sirius Radio's "Shade 45's Lip Service".[5] In 2009, Rose posed for a Louis Vuitton print advertisement featuring Lamon Coleman's new line of sneakers.[6] On July 11, 2009 it was announced that Rose had signed with Ford Models.[citation needed] In September 2009, Rose announced plans to launch her own line of eyewear. She walked the runway at New York Fashion Week for "Celestino", and she was unveiled as the new face of "Boadicea the Victorious" perfume. Rose has also made cameos in music videos such as Ludacris' "What Them Girls Like", Young Jeezy's "Vacation", Mary Mary's "God in Me", and Nicki Minaj's "Massive Attack".[7]
Rose was in a high profile on/off relationship with rapper Kanye West, starting 2008. They ultimately ended their relationship in summer 2010. Off their break-up, West stated: Yeah man, it was an amazing time and it came to an end. One of the greatest things that she showed me was just to be a nicer person because she was so disconnected from the concept of celebrity when I first met her. [Amber] be like, "What?!
