Alesha Anjanette Dixon (born 7 October 1978) is an English singer-songwriter, dancer, model and television personality. She first found fame in the all-female R&B/garage trio Mis-Teeq, however, the trio separated in 2005 and Dixon continued pursuing her music career as a solo artist, signing to Polydor Records. Dixon launched her solo career after Mis-Teeq's breakup and signed a £500,000, three-album deal with Polydor Records. She spent a year writing and recording her solo debut album, Fired Up, working with a wide range of producers including Richard X, Xenomania, Johnny Douglas, Brian Higgins, Estelle and Paul Epworth. During this period Dixon performed mononymously, known simply as "Alesha".
In June 2005, she announced her first solo single to be "Superficial". However, at the last minute, the song "Lipstick" was chosen as the first single. "Lipstick" was released on 14 August 2006, and charted at 14 on the UK Single Charts. She released her second single "Knockdown" on 30 October 2006, which charted at 25 on the UK Download Chart. However on the official UK Singles Charts, the single peaked at number 45, falling down to 68 the following week.
On 6 November 2006, it was revealed that Dixon had been dropped by her label, Polydor Records. Polydor gave her full rights to her unreleased debut album, Fired Up. Her first single from the album, "Lipstick", got to number 1 in Japan's international ringtone chart and number 2 in MTV Japan's hit list. Fired Up was officially released in Japan on 20 February 2008.
The Alesha Show is the second studio album from British R&B/Pop recording artist Alesha Dixon, the album is her first album to be released in the United Kingdom. It was released on 24 November 2008 in the UK by Asylum Records. Dixon, an ex-member of UK Garage girl group, Mis-Teeq, used her full name for the first time while releasing The Alesha Show (her previous album was credited mononymously as "Alesha"). The album's Xenomania-produced track, "The Boy Does Nothing" was chosen as the lead single.
A deluxe edition of the album was released on 23 November, entitled The Alesha Show - Encore. The first single from the Encore edition was "To Love Again". All the singles released from the album, including the Encore edition, reached the top 15 on the UK Singles Chart.
The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number twenty-six, selling over 26,000 copies. It dropped off the top 75 chart after four weeks. The album slowly climbed up the chart and after the success of her second "Breathe Slow" it rose to a new peak of 12, giving the album its first top-twenty chart placing and has since been certified for sales of over 300,000 copies. Following the release of "Let's Get Excited", The Alesha Show rebounded to a new peak of 11.
Following the international release of "The Boy Does Nothing", The Alesha Show has charted in various European countries, including a peak of 39 on the French Albums Chart, compiled by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique.
"Drummer Boy" is song by Alesha Dixon, the lead single from her third album (second in the UK), The Entertainer. The first teasers for the song surfaced on Dixon's fansite in late July, and Dixon announced, via her various social networking sites, that the song would receive its radio play premiere on 23 July on BBC Radio 1 with Fearne Cotton. A longer teaser can be accessed after filling out a survey regarding Dixon, and blogs reporting on the song stated Warner Music Group (Asylum Records' parent company) was blocking any teasers surfacing on YouTube.
Popjustice described the song as "a bit of a grower", stating that on their first listen to the song they dubbed it "2010's worst piece of recorded music", and by their seventh listen they simply wrote, in capital letters, "THIS IS AMAZING". Popjustice also named it their 'Song of the Day' for 22 July, stating that "Chartwise this'll be either a massive hit of a fantastic miss", but regardless it is "up there with the best". The site also noted lyrically the sexual double entendres throughout the verses of the song.
